well to be precise....1 quick format, started reinstalling windows, but stopped half way through, and then another format through disk management in windows

I've ran getdataback and recuva but they only show a few files, which show up as 0 bytes anyway and don't work

is there anything else I can try ?

thanks, running it now, I take it I have to err buy the program for the recover part to work ?
thats what getdataback download was like anyway...searched for the files but didnt let you get them back until you cough up

Obv you buy it, it will let you recover smaller files for Free.

This App is the best bar none, that's why its not Free, and it will not effect you running it as Free then buying it (ie you do not need rescan and risk loosing more DATA).

It saved me bacon and my DATA was worth the cost as a 1 x payment for life/updates.

Just don't get caught out by a piece of software that says it can do something, and then when you pay for it magically doesn't.

Some driver software nailed me that way. Said some individual drivers were up to date. It was nVidia chipset drivers so I thought well, it's only a tenner or so, it'll get the individual drivers and that's miles better than using an .exe which installs them all at once.

It ****ing downloaded 4 year old driver packages, the same stuff I could get within a minute from nVidia's site except years out of date. I got ripped off like a chump. I'd come under the impression that this software was accessing a private database containing just about every single individual driver possible. Instead it basically just checked my devices against a list held somewhere. The list just had a URL and a version number.

It's almost enough to make you pirate the software first to make sure it works - but I can't do that as it's against forum rules.

I'm just warning him not to get lured by any random piece of crippleware (branded as shareware) which promises it can recover his files, shows him a list of stuff, and when he pays for it, it doesn't work.
