Looking to pick up a pair in the near future, but looking for peoples opinions on either these, or alternatives before I make the plunge post Christmas! :)

So, discuss people! :)

I use the A40's with the mixamp and love it. I imagine the A50's are just as good.

However Kreeee will be along to say you should buy the mixamp and PC360 headset as it's better and the best available, I cannot comment as not used it.

Any issues with the A40's?

I'll check out the PC360's too, but ideally wanted an all in one solution :)

Also to mention, I looked at the Tritton Warheads which are licensed and the only true wireless xbox headsets (no wires to the controller for the mic), but apparently the quality isn't as high as the Astro A50's.

Though they do have removable batteries and inbuilt functions within the xbox (headset charge when the guide button is pressed for example).

Any one used these who'd care to comment please? :)

Touchwood no issues, other than not being able to figure out how to activate the main mic when I first got them and spent the evening talking to myself. Lol.

They've changed it in the A50's I think, to mute it you move into the up position. This the same on the A40's?

Ideally, I'll get back into PC gaming once I've completed my man den, so they'll be cross platform hopefully!

Astro mix amp and pc360's here. Simply can't be beaten!

While very good and definitely better than standard A40's and 50's, the pc360 combo can be very beaten on price and sound quality, just not ease of use.

I started with Tritton AX pro's a couple of years ago when they launched, these replaced damaged Sennheiser 595's. The AX pro's weren't bad but they are an overpriced gaming headset and nothing else. I used them simply because easy talking on XB live was more important than sound quality at the time.

The AX pro's became A50's last year, which quickly became A40's due to hating the wireless sound quality.

The A40's were upgraded with PC360 headphones keeping the Mixamp. This is a great and easy to use combination, the PC360 headset is about twice as good as my A40's and 3 times as good as the A50. Buying PC360's is something you will never, ever regret.

Currently the Mixamp gathers dust, the PC360 just stay plugged in to PC, where they will spend the rest of their life.

For consoles I use a Turtle Beach DSS2 which is little better for sound quality and positional audio than my Mixamp, but worse for mic mixing on consoles and in to this I have Sennheiser HD 598's.

598's and 558's plugged in to DSS2 is quite a bit better than Mixamp and PC360, cheaper also. The caveat being that if talking to mates over xb live etc is a priority then you need a mixamp over a DSS2, and you'd need a mic on your 598's, at that point I'd go back to recommending the PC360's just to keep your life easy.

Conclusions:

Mixamp is great for making life easy to talk, good for positional audio, but it isn't great sound quality, PC360 and HD598 level headphones plugged in to it is disappointing.

TB DSS2 is great for sound quality, great for positional audio, great for price (£50) but awful for voice comms

Astro headphones, the same as all 'gaming' headphones are good, but they are more focused on pretty plastic than sounding good/great, they've been popularized by gamers/mlg etc and accepted as being great/the best, and this simply is not true. They are good enough and convenient, but will always be overpriced.

When you hear proper headphone quality and hear proper positional audio you'll understand how disappointing all gaming headphones are.

My growing collection of gaming headsets comes in handy from time to time, but god do I wish I went straight for PC360 or HD598's

Not had experience with the a40's or a50's or anything like the experience of Fars. I found people recommending other headsets, can't remember if they are the oens Fars mentioned, but they always came with the line 'I think they are better but...' so in the end I went with mixamp and pc360 and they are lovely. The only way I justified the cost of them though was to sell my pc headset and to use pc360 for both pc and xbox and they do the job perfectly.

One thing I will add about the pc360's is they are sooooo comfortable. The headsets I used before (TB's and a Roccat set) were comfortable but the PC360's are another level.

Some of the reviews say the 350's are better than the 360's, do you have any views

Astro A40's are good but not the best overall sound quality, PC360 and wireless mixamp was my favourite by far........until I tried the new Tritton Warheads, they are amazing.

350's are bassier but they are closed headphones so directional sound is a lot worse. It depends on your needs/wants.

Are there any Tritton Warhead reviews from decent sites (i.e. non-gaming sites)?

tech radar, ign have reviews.

The issue with the Warheads for me, is that they are xbox only. I'd want to use a headset on the PC (when I get mine sorted anyways)

Don't trust either of those sites for audio reviews, especially the latter. I need Mad Lust Envy from head-fi to get his hands on them!
