Any console users used the Astro A50's?

The Astro A40s (I can comment on that, and I assume the A50s are similar) are one of the most used headsets for console. The Astro A40s and Mixamp pairing is what many top eSport players use.

If you feel that the price of both of them together is a bit too high, you might want to opt for a SSv2 + mixamp pairing.

If price is still too high, then just go for the SSv2. I hear that the A40s are pretty crap without the mixamp, but the v2s are good even without a mixamp (although they lose their surround capabilities).

i have the v2s, and they are my first and only headset, and I like them. They are great headsets and they do the job. I use them on PC too.

Would recomend (even though they break very easily, so be extra careful)

Very nice set of reviews for gaming headsets here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/mad-lust-envys-headphone-gaming-guide-updated-1-1-13-yuin-g1a-added

The A50's have a nicely detailed section.

Thank you, it'll give me something to read at work! :D

Thanks for this; If i was going down the Astro route, I think I'd just get the A50's, saves the hassle. But I do appreciate what you've said, so thank you!! :)

Sorry for the bump - I've decided to go for the PC360's now, the reason why is there are too many inconsistent reviews of the A50's (some say they're great, some say they're horrible) and pair it up with the Mixamp. The next question is: which mixamp to go for? The mixamp 5.8 the one which most people take the plunge for? :)

How does the mixamp connect up? Headphones into the headphone slot, mic into the mic slot, USB into the front of the xbox? Then meaning I'd just need to swap the out over to change this over to the PC? Is there any way of having this connected to both devices at the same time?

Thanks Kreeeeee; The above is for the xbox, then just take out in the input and swap that to the PC? Is tehre a way of having it all in one?

http://www.astrogaming.co.uk/mixamp-58-rx - This mixamp the one I need too? If so I'll pick one up at the end of the month. OcUK are meant to be getting the 360's in too, so I'll pick them up from here when I pick the PC up :)

Sorry for the nubbin questions :p

D'oh :/

Looks as though they're restocking for the 2013 version, so I'll have to wait. No big deal :)

Thansk Kreeee, apologies for daft questions!

I use my A50's with the Xbox & PS3 and love them, the sound quality is spot on and the wireless is brilliant..

I had (and still have) the A40's before which were amazing but the A50's are actually a fair bit better imo

New mixamp is up on the site, waiting for a couple more reviews first before taking the plunge;

Don't quite understand how the mix amp supports more than one device; Say Xbox and PC. USB to PC, with Co-ax, and optical to xbox? Does that sound right? Not sure how it distinguishes between both sources - It's a bit like voodoo for me! Any one make sense of this? :)

Thanks for this; I've been checking out the reviews and I see a good review, then a meh review. Really putting me off going for the A50, as I'd prefer them really as it's an all in one package which appeals. But most reviews point towards the pc360 as being a better headset all round.

Any experience of the pc360's?

Well the PC360's are supposed to be good but of course the are wired. I looked at those when I bought my A40's with the wireless mixamp but decided to get the A40's as I liked the whole Astro thing. I was very pleased with them and still have them but I wanted to go completely wireless.

As for the reviews of the A50's look at the dates the reviews were made as when they first came out they had some issues with voice chat being quiet and headsets hanging. This was corrected with updated firmware and from the end of 2012 new pcb's were used in them and they are the ones I got.

Ohh and just to explain how I've got all mine connected, I use optical from me PS3, Xbox and PC into an optical switch (a powered one with remote not one of the cheap dial things) and then I just between the one I'm using without having to disconnect things all the time.

Thanks for that Jase; Throwing the cat right amongst the pigeons! :p

Any pics of your A50's? :)

Do you have any recommendations of an optical switch, as I might as well just use that! :)

Here's some pics, sorry for the quality as I had to use the phone :

Lovely, thanks :)

Did you purchase your A50's direct?

is that the Lindy 4 way optical switch too? :)

nps, it is a Lindy switch too, well spotted :)

I bought my A40's direct from Astro but I didn't get my A50's from them, I wanted them quickly and they couldn't ship that day. I don't think I can post a link to where I got them as they may be classed as a competitor.

I've just noticed your Location as Telford, i48 is there next month and would be an ideal time to check out and try a load of headsets if you can get a ticket for the day or whatever. I see OcUK are going to be there.

There's no too many 4 way optical switches around, so the choices were limited! :D How do you find it?

A great shout Jase; I might pop up. Thanks for the advice, very helpful and appreciated! :)

The switch does exactly what it's supposed to which is what I wanted. I also use their HDMI splitter and their HDMI Switch's all of which work. I've made the mistake in the past of buying some things off the bay which although not cheap (but cheaper) either don't work correctly or stop working after a while.
