Looking to purchase the 256GB Samsung 830 for use in a desktop and I see that the desktop version is £199.99 whilst the notebook version is £173.99
Is there any difference between the two besides that the notebook version includes the extra bits and bobs required for transferring data to the drive? Seems odd...

Are these any better than the M4's which are currently on offer at £152.99?
I figured the samsung's are newer so may have better performance?

As the Samsung price has gone up from 150 quid I would get the M4 at it's current price. (but that's just because I have an M4 already).
Both good drives though whichever way you go.

edit; if you go the Samsung route the more expensive one has more bits and bobs yes.

there are three versions of the samsung 830's, barebones (drive in a box, nothing else), desktop kit (2.5" > 3.5" mounting kit and norton ghost software) and the notebook kit (usb > sata adaptor and norton ghost software).

Hope that helps!

Ended up buying the OCZ vertex 4
Figured if its worth doing then its worth doing properly

I don't think it is a reliable as the M4 or the 830 but all my data is backed up and it has a 5 year warranty which it pretty reassuring to be honest
Very happy so far :D
Hope i made the right choice :s

Wouldn't say that the Vertex 4 is worth the extra £45 at all (and most would be inclined to agree, hence why the m4 and 830 still sell so well). That said, the Vertex 4 is a great drive.
