any experience with the e36 m3?

I'm not talking crap, I'm talking real world where tuning a 200SX is far more practical than buying whatever slammed into the weeds junk you fancy this week and making a turbocharger out of yoghurt pots and stickyback plastic.

You are in fact talking complete testicles.

Go back to advising on cruise control settings and cup holder angles.

Milgo, is being in a garage and building a car up as Penski suggested part of the plan or are you looking to just buy something that's 'nearly' ready?

If these cars are so cheap to buy and fun and easy to modify, why do you not own one? You are a true car enthusiast, no true car enthusiast would be without a car unless it was beyond their control. Here you are saying you can pick up great stuff for less than the price of a grotty holiday in Spain and... you don't have one....

Nissan Pulsar GTI-R. Will be ballistic and give you some decent change to spend on upgrades, brakes and ARB's i believe are the first ones to sort out.

Mmmmmpolo...

If you're not already there, get on Retro Rides. :)

Five grand would build you a hell of a car. That orange 2 door kadett (with C20XE) I posted a few weeks back was up for 3.5k...

220-250bhp, sub 900kg, caged and ready to go on sticky track rubber for five grand.

Sounds like a good alternative to a M3. I know M3s are renowned for being stripped out and having roll cages :)

Lol- great retort :D

Yeah sorry this went a bit off topic. My current position means that buying a car that is good as stock is what i ideally want.

What ive wanted to do for ages now is totally gut a car and work from there to make a track animal. Ive been through about 6 cars in two years (since i started driving) because i buy something, fiddle with it to a point and then can't progress any further because i dont have the space to do what i really want and sell it.

There is, of course, the Porsche 944 within your budget. Avoid everything bar the S2 or the Turbo but you'd be lucky to find a Turbo and if it goes wrong, don't fixit, leggit. The S2 though is swift, handles beautifully and is a solid piece of kit. A great platform for a great drivers car.
