Any foragers on here?

Can't wait nettle season should be starting anytime now, didnt see any when I was out on Monday.
Got a recipe for nettle pesto balls (think fritters) which I really want to try, as well as nettle soup and nettle bear. As far as I know, I've never eaten nettles. Got some books, so when I'm out getting nettles going to see what else I can find.

Good idea on the books, I think I need to educate myself on foraging for food. It's so wild round here that I'm probaby missing out on some good edible plants, been looking up 'wild garlic' could well be some of that around here so will have a look for that first.

Why is it an overrated fad?

Some people especially in other countries basically have zero food bills.
When out walking or doing stuff, why not pick up free food it costs nothing.
Why bumpy blackberrys from tesco when at the right time of year you can find them everywhere.

We are not people in other countries though, we are in England where unless you are homeless or have no money, you can waltz down the road and have a kilo of lovely fresh veg in ten minutes for very little money.

Then you get restaurants making loads of cash from it... I'm with Jason Atherton; everyone's doing it and they just don't need to bother.

Little money. Is more. Than nothing. Some chefs go over the top. I hardly say its a fad though.
Plenty of people in uk. Do it. As. Well, we just have a lack of land and stupid rules.
I envy farmers or family/friends of farmers. And also when I was chatting to people in US :(

You don't need to bother with a lot of things. However if I walk past mushrooms ill be picking them up.

nettle bear
RARGH! Bet you won't be catching that yourself. Pics or it didn't happen etc :D

Have you got a recipe for nettle beer? Is it different from nettle champagne or basically the same thing?

Ah right, and there was me thinking that all food has been bought from the supermarket in cleverly marketed packaging since the dawn of mankind. Thanks so much for clarifying.

The fact that you genuinely seem to think that I thought foraging was new...well...you've never come across as the sharpest, so I'll clarify for you: I don't think it's new, I just think it's an over-rated fad.

What a strange little man you are: Comes into the cooking section to **** off people who like looking for ingredients. Says people who disagree are not sharp.

Off you pop to GD, there's a good lad!

Robbie this is a thread for people who enjoy foraging, it doesnt matter if you think its a fad or a waste of time, we enjoy it. please just go away.
