Any get out for an accidental auto-renewed app subscription?

I signed up to a fitness iOS app last year for a year subscription, only a month in I had a re-occurrence of an unrelated health issue which meant I couldn't exercise anymore so stopped using the app. I didn't mind that I'd paid a year for something I couldn't use, but definitely didn't want to get charged again, I thought I'd disabled auto-renew because it wasn't in my Apple Subscriptions... but I must have signed up on their site rather than in the app. This morning they took £100 for another years subscription, no email/notification reminder beforehand, I quickly contacted them explaining the situation/mistake but they replied with "We don't offer refunds under any circumstances, no exceptions."

I think I'm out of luck, it's my fault and I'll probably just have to accept the loss but as a last resort just wondering if there are any consumer laws anyone knows I could quote about getting a refund on accidentally auto-renewed subscription? Thanks!

Wouldn't the '"We don't offer refunds under any circumstances, no exceptions." be their answer again?
It's annoying though as I assume they would see you hadn't used the app since the first month.

Yes, that'll teach me to read the whole post /facepalm

Sounds like you're gonna hafta suck it up OP, or give / sell the sub to someone who can use it.

Thanks for the replies, didn't want to name the app yet because it's still ongoing but I've tried contacting both live support and the separate email address they provide and had no luck couldn't find any other ports of contact because I'm not on social media. Don't think I can chargeback because in addition to the fact that they haven't technically done anything wrong (I don't think), it was also paid on a Revolut debit card which probably has 0 protection

Name the app, can't do any harm.

Auto renew is a pet hate of mine and I try and avoid it. That being said, some places are far more ethical about it. For example Microsoft and JetBrains send me reminder emails about a month before so if I wanted to cancel their services I'd have time to do it.

"No refunds under any circumstances" has them down in the scumbag category. I take it you've cancelled now to stop this same thing happening in a year.

Sorry no help to op. But I almost never sign up to autorenew trials. Because I know I'll forget.

I hate them.

There should be a law that you can leave within 14 days or something if you haven't used the service

Thanks, I will look at that. Probably won't end up submitting one though because I can't risk any marks on my credit as they haven't done anything legally wrong, need to get a mortgage soon.

Lesson learned, I won't be signing up to subscriptions again. Shame it happened right at Christmas.

Yeah, just tell your bank to revert the charge. In theory, the scumbag company in question might be able to pursue you through the courts to get their money, but they're highly unlikely to do so - it's not worth their while and it's not clear the court would side with them anyway.
