Any good darts players here?

I have a board at home, practice when I can, normally a few times a week.

I am just struggling to get any better.

I'm conscious of my throw, conscious of my stance. Have tried different positions, different throws etc.

I'm not sure how to figure out why I can't improve.

When I throw the dart it feels like I can't aim it properly. I don't have a common reference point that I can stick to every time.

I'm not a good player but I'd suggest just trying a specific action and repeating it. So rather than trying to physically aim at different spots on the board, just keep repeating the throw until you are starting to get more consistent with 'grouping' (and when I say 'grouping', I don't mean landing them in and around T20, I'm saying you want to get to a position where you are repeatedly landing somewhere in the 5/20/1 arc).

Then move on to around the world or something like that (maybe slowed down i.e. focusing on hitting an adjacent segment), just getting familiar with adjusting your throw slightly as you move round the board. My personal view is that being able to aim with moderate accuracy at different numbers is a skill worth having because as an amateur player your setup shots will be terrible, you'll end up needing all kinds of strange doubles rather than being able to consistently go for D20/D16.

Obviously it depends what sort of standard you are, but don't get frustrated by throwing garbage, try to benchmark yourself and look for small improvements like X% of darts landing in the right number, don't worry too much about the randoms that went in the wrong segment or off the board, it's just about repetition and getting to the stage where that's happening less frequently even if it still happens.

have you tried different weight and shape darts, but its a brutal game that you have to put a silly amount of work into.

i am useless but a guy local to me got to 26th in the PDC and i know he was playing 7 days a week, multiple times a day.

Not a darts player but maybe you could film yourself to see how you’re throwing? Could pick up any subtle differences from throw to throw?

I’m not that great, I use to play in the local pub a few years back. Got right into it for a couple of years. I think it’s just more and more practise. Throwing the same way, holding the thing the exact same, standing the exact same distance away each and every single time. Kind of getting it into that natural motion. I went to Australia for 4 weeks, came back and got my arse handed to me for a week and then the fun of it kind of died out as I’d be out first and watching for ages when we played killer which we’d play a lot as there was a usually 7 of us.

I've played a lot when I was younger but certainly no expert.

Both my parents played for Buckinghamshire County and my Dad could and should have turned Pro.
He was always playing against the likes of, Jocky Wilson, Big Cliff, Eric Bristow, Keith Deller just to name a few.
I even remember going to Eric Bristows' Pub "The Crafty Cockney" I think it was called for my Dad to be involved in a tournament with some other famous players.

That's what Bobby George says you should do and he was a very good player (I however am not).

Wow, who is that?

MVG just taught his opponent an absolute lesson on TV. He is almost unplayable.

On my own play, my grouping is actually ok most of the time, but instead of getting 3 darts in the 20s I'm getting 3 in the 5's or 3 in the 1's. Hence why I think the aiming point is my issue. My doubles play is ok, but i just can't score high.

But it's not like shooting a gun, there is no crosshairs to sight through. I can't find a reliable point of reference.
