Any good detective games?

Hi Old Man,

I'm currently playing Tex Murphy: Tesla Effect which I would maybe describe as an adventure game about a detective rather than a detective game, enjoyable enough though.
For me a detective game would have you carrying out interviews of witnesses and collecting evidence for you to interpret and make your own deductions/decisions/conclusions that effect the outcome, rather than just finding the required pieces of a puzzle and having the answer appear.

As others have suggested I'd also describe 'Contradiction - Spot the Liar' or 'Her Story' as more of a detective game.
These both feature full motion video of live actors and are reasonably well acted given their low budget, in my humble opinion.
I'd also suggest LA Noir even though I ultimately found it frustrating as I had a problem with one of the key detecting game mechanics, reading facial expressions and body language, I just couldn't seem to interpret them consistently correctly but a great game if you can.

Cheers. :)

LA Noir is a good game up until near the end, when -

You realise that the murders could have been prevented and the killer apprehended MID GAME, when it was made blatantly obvious who he was, yet the game mechanics prevented you from questioning him in any meaningful way.

My friend was very happy for the great response to my query on this thread and wanted to thank you all for the suggestions. My friend has just bought "Tesla Effect, Still Life Collection and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter" to start with.

:)

An older one and not exactly a detective game - but if you like the exploring and figuring things out aspects you might find Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines interesting.
