Any good sword games ?

I used to love Die by the Sword. Very dated now but the movement mechanics were great

YES!! Glad I wasn't the only one to love this. Currently only £4.09 over at GOG at the moment and that includes the Limb from limb expansion and cuss pack.

To go more up to date I'd say Chivalry or the Dark Souls series.

Depends what you want and what you mean by 'sword'... I like a lot of things like Skyrim, but I equally enjoyed the mechanics in things like StarWars: The Force Unleashed.

If it has to be all medievally - I'm actually considering Exanima myself.
It's gotten some bad reviews from people who just want the press of a button to deliver X move or Y counter, but if you're into the physics of sword combat it sounds like it could be interesting...

An old one, but for me it's has (or maybe 'had') the most satisfying melee combat:

Great shadows for the time, too, though there isn't much evidence of that here. Some great fights in this video; good to see them in-fighting at times. :)

I'd not realised Exanima was like this at all, and I've just YouTubed it. I'll be getting that for sure!

Edit: I realise now what I saw on YT was a zoomed in video. Is the game really so far zoomed out that you can hardly see the (What appear to be) amazing details? I'd only be interested if it was as close in as something like Splinter Cell or GTA V - anything further out ruins the immersion for me.

Severance: Blades of Darkness was very enjoyable back in the day, graphics were cutting edge then, not sure how good it would look now, but the gameplay more than makes up for it.:D

Edit: Damn beaten to it , didn't realise until I read all posts.

If they remake it i'd pay full price for it in a heartbeat one of my fav pc games of all time. :D

Shame they never released a 2nd one.

The First Templar on steam was pretty fun, even has 2 player co-op. Highly underrated imo.

Risen 1 and 3 , didn't care for 2 so much. Spec a melee build, a very punishing game. Risen 1 allowed shields which I think is the only one to do so.

The obvious elder scrolls series.

Not sure, TBH. I haven't bought it yet.
I know there is a zoom mod of some kind, although I think it's still ongoing in development.

However, I believe the Left & Right control is fixed to the character not the screen, and that the camera is not, meaning you'd have to keep moving the camera round or get your brain into thinking 'character's left' every time.

Thanks be to Mod!

I've noticed that about the camera - sometimes the YouTube player's camera just goes way off somewhere and the player gets rather lost in terms of their orientation in the fight. Then again, I can imagine a fixed camera would be incredibly odd given the way the moves have you spinning around (and the camera would spin with you) and going wherever you wish to go? If it was a fixed move, like in LOTR type games, then the camera can stay static whilst the character is spinning, but in Exanima, the lack of fixed move combinations would make this impossible, I suppose.

They're usually trying to move the camera round behind the character, like in most 3rd person games. This auto-centres it with Spacebar or something, I think, but it's not intended to work that way - You need to see in front of your character in order to judge distance.

All this weirdness is why I'm still only considering the game...

Ah interesting - thank you.
Yes, for me it's still a little too far off a playable/attractive game (bitten bad by DayZ!) if the camera is going to stay that zoomed out without mods and is still so twitchy.
