just to clarify, i'm not. other than good riddance, i think their music sucks.

i have just seen a clip on youtube of the lead singer trying to act rock n roll

can't link it here directly as it's got a few expletives in it but if you want to watch it, search MELTDOWN leads Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong To rehab

anyone know the full story here? other than him acting like a little girl....

look out axl rose, you have some competition!

Early albums all great, then they went a bit well **** around Nimrod. American Idiot had a few stand out tracks, namely Letterbomb for me. Alas, they've become far too big and sold out.

Now, they're just laughable. Damn shame, a lot of their songs formed the soundtrack to my formative years.

I think they're quite good.

Went to see them in Wembley Stadium last year having only heard one or two of their most popular songs and I really enjoyed it.

Listened to most of their stuff ever since.

Their set was cut short from 45 minutes to 25 so that Usher could have more time. I don't like Green Day but I can understand entirely why they'd be ****** off.

I like Green Day. Dookie and particularly Insomniac are amazing. Nimrod is good, but much brighter and poppier, and American Idiot is excellent but definitely far from their roots. I don't really rate Warning or 21st Century Breakdown. And for the old school folk... I've not listened to their first two albums enough to really have an opinion.

The music is pop punk, go figure. The lyrics are great, though. They're often pretty clever and well structured. I really like the use of idioms on something like All The Time or Walking Contradiction.

I'm going to listen to Insomniac now.

Oh yeah, the music may generally not be spectacular, but the bass player is brilliant. They've got some amazing basslines.

They were never one of my favourite bands but quite liked up until Nimrod, Warning was ok but I kind of went off them after that.

And yes, it's readily apparent that they are a band that it's cool to hate because you are so much more teh hardcorez.

I dislike them because I can't stand the type of music they produce. My preferences in life are based on what I believe, over what I think I should believe based on a general consensus. It's of no significance whether it's cool to hate, or cool to love Greenday,, I personally have always thought their music was bad.

I don't really think it's about that, maybe if you're 12 and you're physically trying not to be mainstream (like I was :O), But I've always disliked their style, I can say the same for gun's and roses, I just dislike some bands.

Overplaying something to death is always a fine way to put the nail in the coffin for me.

NOFX, now there's a punk band I like :D.

Conscious or not the comparison to The Offspring is very valid, they've taken a similar path but at least The Offspring had the decency to not write a Broadway Musical about it... :D

I still love Green Day's post Nimrod stuff, like I love Incubus's post Morning View stuff. Great bands, both in their prime, releasing great and memorable tracks. Alas now, for whatever reason they've changed their attitude and their musical styles and they're not bands who I'd say I enjoy for their current releases. Whether that's hate or not, depends on your definition I guess.

Can't go wrong with a bit of NOFX. :) Their latest release is pretty awesome actually, almost has a White Trash/Punk in Drublic feel to it.

Have you heard the latest Propagandhi effort? Now that is utterly, utterly stunning.

i have been hearing that 'someone kill the dj' song on the radio the past few weeks and thought it was the arctic monkeys!

i too, think greenday struggle(d) with their identity.

pop punk, trying to be hardcore! (see the vid)

I got the new Green Day album delivered yesterday. After 3 listens I'm not that fond of it. It's just simple sing-a-long stuff that hasn't got the bite of the earlier albums.

My two favourites of theirs are Insomniac and Dookie.

After watching the video of Billie having a mardy, I'm inclined to think it was staged to get some headlines shortly before a new album release? I hope this isn't the case obviously, but it did cross my mind.

I saw them at Reading this year and they were awesome. I never looked into their stuff at all, but since seeing them live I've been checking them out more. They've done some pretty good stuff! And I really enjoyed them live!

Shame about his rehab stint though - when I saw them, he looked wasted and it was like 11 o'clock in the morning :p

I do have their earlier albums which are awesome. The turning point for me was when Warning was released. It was a present and I popped it in the CD player and hit play..... Then I took it out again and checked they hadn't put the wrong CD in the case .... I put the cd back in the player and realised they had sold out :(

Much like Offspring and Incubus they are dead to me with their new music. Each time they put out a new album I hope they are actually going to release something worthwhile.... Still waiting :(
