Mines just got back and she acting a bit drunk! lol (anasthetic I presume). she has a lampshade on and the vets advised to leave it on as cats have sharp tongues, it seems to be adding to her distress though, I cant remember my mum and dads kittens having to wear one. I guess she just needs to sleep.

Anyone got any views on the lampshade or general aftercare tips....

Having a bit of a debate with my other half about this, our kittens are going to get spayed soon and she seems to think they'll need a lampshade... the kittens I had before (well... 12+ years ago) didn't have one when they got spayed (not that I remember anyway).

With the lampshade, you can take it off but keep an eye on her. If she insists on licking/biting the stiches then put it back on. Put it on when no one is there to keep an eye on her with it off.

our little girl didn't need a lampshade - the vet gave her soluble 'internal' stitches - i.e there was nothing for her to lick / pull out!
same when we had the rabbits neutered too!

she has soluble internal stitches, the wound is very neat. but when we picked her up she had the collar on and we were told to keep it that way.

It dosent matter now as she managed to get half way up the stairs and got one of her paws through it, then couldn't get her paw out and was balancing across two steps! lol. I had to cut it off!! so thats the end of that one!

been watching her since then and she's not even looked at it...

Thanks for the help guys!

My girls didn't get lampshades, but they were woozy for about 2 days. Toward the end of the second day the excitable one got the mood back, but not the coordination. Hours of hilarity ensued.

I think she could be similar! lol

shes wanting fuss one minute and hissing at me the next at the minute! she dosent seem to be going for the stitches though so far! :)
