Hey all,

My current specs:

Operating System
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
CPU
Intel Core i5 6600K @ 3.50GHz
(Noctua NH-D14 CPU Fan)
RAM
16.0GB Dual-Channel Unknown @ 1069MHz (12-14-14-28)
HyperX FURY 16 GB DDR4 2666 MHz (2 x 8GB)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Z170-A (LGA1151)
Graphics
Dell S2716DG (2560x1440)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
Storage
465GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB (SSD)
Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio
Power Supply
650W EVGA SuperNOVA G2 PSU

I wondered what I should upgrade next - I was considering a few things, such as:

- AOI Water Cooling CPU - But I was unsure how much extra benefit this would give me?
- Power Supply - Unsure if 650W is enough for this setup?

Anything here that looks like it could be bottlenecking? Does the CPU need an update?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Marky

Doesn't look like anything really needs updating tbh, have you noticed any issues in games?

You could upgrade to an i7 and or add an NVME drive?

That PSU should be fine, good quality unit.

Not sure an AIO would be much of an upgrade - your air cooler is about as good as things get

Looks like your memory is running at 2133MHz but is rated for 2666 so it's worth trying the XMP or manually clicking it up to that, just because you can. I agree about the air cooler - don't go water unless you're having problems on air. A good air cooler beats a mediocre CLC.

More importantly though, unless you're dissatisfied with performance somewhere (including secondary performance like noise, heat, energy consumption), you don't need to upgrade. Spend the cash on other toys or games games. Have you got a nice keyboard and mouse? Sound system?

The whole system looks fine, 650w is probably overkill. If you wanted to upgrade I’d be looking at a new CPU - you already have an excellent cooler for overclocking

I believe (but don’t quote me on this) your board should be compatible with Kaby Lake with a BIOS update so an i7 7700k would probably make a worthwhile upgrade in terms of multi core performance, along with perhaps a larger SSD as mentioned but that depends on your own storage needs

Haven't really noticed many issues really - Just wanted to see if there was anything else I need to update to bring it in line (I've just updated to the 1080Ti)

The only lingering issue that I've neglected to look into is that when I restart the PC, it seems to be taking way to long to load the login screen. I remember that it loaded in about 10 seconds before, now it seems to take 1-2 minutes before the login screen appears...

Good spot! :D I've just put it right (I think) - In Speccy it is showing as @1336Hz now.

Good to know about the AIO Water Coolers - I wasn't sure if it'd be worth it really. I always knew the Noctua was really good.

I think it'll be time to update my keyboard/mouse combo soon - Especially as the scroll on my mouse seems to be shot now :p

It crossed my mind about maybe updating to a 1TB SSD.

What GFX card did you move from - if it was ATI/AMD did you do a clean install / get rid of the old drivers first? That can cause windows to be a bit slow on the uptake

From Nvidia GTX 970 to the 1080TI

I have since done a complete clean install

I don't think it's a Windows issue (although I could be wrong) - it loads for ages on this screen:

In restarting the computer to take that picture - I'm upping the time - I think it's probably more like 2 - 3 Minutes which definitely doesn't seem right (I don't restart a lot so I've not really noticed :p)

Yeah - thats not right - were you using the Asus boot screen customisation before?

I may have used it in the past to load an OS from an external hard drive, but I don't use it anymore.

I do have 2x HDDs connected at the moment, if that makes any difference...

I've been meaning to disconnect them actually, as I don't use them anymore.

Might be worth looking in windows disk management to make sure all the boot partitions etc are on your SSD and haven't somehow ended up on a slower/older drive possibly
