This is probably a stupid question, but I've got a new Ryzen 5 3600 and X470 Gaming Plus motherboard, which I know most likely requires a bios update (I've got a boot kit request pending but MSI are taking forever to give me the Comms trail AMD need to mail the kit!).
I know there's a tiny chance the motherboard may already be updated but I'm too scared to check. Is there any potential for harm of seeing if it boots? I'm assuming that if the bios isn't up to date, it just won't detect the CPU and won't POST, but I've read elsewhere about someone fried their CPU because it was unsupported and the board overvolted it, unsure on facts with this.
