Any headphone users here with a large head?

Hi Folks. I’m in the market for a decent set of headphones / headset but I’m cursed with a rather large napper so finding a set to fit comfortably is a pain. When I say large – I suppose I mean HUGE – like XXL hat size huge, and yes – before you ask – its mostly bone. Don’t get me wrong – I’m not the elephant man:D – its got the normal proportions, its just that it barely fits into a hardhat.
I’m wondering if any OC’ers have had the same problem and if they have found any models that fit their heads without squeezing them like a vice.
I’ll be using them just for gaming and I’ve recently purchased a Xonar DG which should be waiting for me to fit when I get off this rig. I’ve no budget in mind but I’m not after perfect quality - 20 years of working offshore, motorbikes, rock festivals and shooting has pretty much knacked my hearing.

Cheers

The band on my PC163Ds is pretty wide (wider than normal) - but its really designed that way to sit lightly on a "normal" sized head so not sure how well someone with a wide head would really get on with it.

I have a huge head. Most of my headphones have started off vice-like and loosened with time. Senn HD600, Goldring DR series started off really nasty.

Goldring NS1000s are a strange one, they look small but manage to clamp less than the DR series.

Speedlink Medusas are a great fit for a big head - awful sounding though. So comfortable I seriously considered transplanting decent drivers in.

Would avoid the medusas - my brother got some when they first came out and SQ was acceptable tho not amazing but recently he replaced them and the new ones sound absolutely terrible.

I second this. I'm massively disappointed because the first sets I had were amazing, if a bit fragile. I ended up swapping some speakers over between sets to get a fully working one. Then I eventually got a newer pair and they were awful. The centre speakers sounded completely different from the others, no dynamic range at all.

I tried the very latest NX versions recently because they were on special offer, but they still sounded rubbish compared to the early sets. I got a refund because one of the subwoofers wasn't working, and I've bought a set of DR150's to replace them. Though the DR150s are tighter than the medusas, but I'm hoping they'll loosen up a bit in time. They're not as bad as the Creative Fatal1ty ones though - they were actually painful to wear. I had to sell them.

Hey - I wasn't recommending the Medusas. Sound quality is so bad that it negates any ergonomic benefit.

Maybe some of the wing-style Audio-Technicas. I had a set of ATH-A900s, which were very comfy and sounded great. Any of the closed ATH-A*** or open ATH-AD*** series headphones are a similar design and are great for big heads.

I've got small head and NS1000 seems perfect but having a quick look at the adjustment and it looks like they can fit very large sizes just as well !

I have a large head (have to wear XXL hats at least - and I am 6' 3" tall, so luckily not too out of proportion) and I find that my Sennheiser HD280 Pros are easily large enough for my melon - in fact they can be adjusted further than I need them.

Sound quality is excellent too, even without an amp the richness of the sound and the bass is excellent.

I have a large head and the NS1000's where uncomfortable on me after a while so I sold them, so I have to stick with my Sennheiser HD215's at the minute.
