Any idea why I have to manually boot from my SSD?

Hey fellas, I just installed a new mobo (Asus P8Z77-V) with win8.1 and every time I start/restart, I get this screen after the Asus splashscreen.

I then have to go into the bios and manually boot from the SSD to get into windows.
The SSD is plugged into the the correct sata port according to the manual and I'm baffled, so if anyone has any ideas...?

I've flashed it to the latest bios btw.

On another note, despite using startisback, I'm really not feeling Win8... :( But anyway :)

Yep, it's going back tomorrow.
I'm now tempted by the Z77X-UD3H or the other Z77-V also in b-grade  Hey, I'm an idiot on a budget. Might as well take a chance :D

Thank God I didn't buy an OEM copy of windows this time...

try reflashing the same bios, sometimes it sticks in not applying/saving settings, reflashing bios cures it

esp on z77

I don't think it's down to the bios mate...

From what I gather, this is an issue with the socket itself. It basically thinks there's a new cpu every time you start up which means that you can't save any bios settings.
This could have been caused by the previous owner (if there was one) applying too much pressure with a cooler, or it could've just come out of the factory like that.

The issue was there before I flashed the latest bios too.

Saying that, I'll give it another go anyway. You never know :D

true,i just have to do that sometimes with my gigabyte z77,it wont apply or save settings sometimes, seen it happen on few asus boards also

a long cmos clear might also help,if your using a sb cpu, prev owner might have used an ib

Just tried flashing it again and no joy. Might as well try the cmos, but I won't get my hopes up :)

Failing that, I'll probably cross my fingers and take a punt on the other Z77-V...
Need at least one PCI slot and I'm addicted to fan xpert2 :o

ED: Removing the battery for 25mins didn't sort it, so I guess it's a hardware thing...

So... I ended up ordering the other Z77-V which has just arrived :)

The first one arrived in a plain brown box with nothing but the board. No IO plate, no wifi slot adaptor thingy. Nada.
This one arrived in the proper retail box with everything you'd get when buying fresh, down to sealed bags containing the extras.

B-grade really is a minefield :D Not tested it yet and won't until later today, but signs are looking very good.

Heh :D

Well, just got back in and had a closer look at the board. There's a bit of TIM on both sides of the clamp/frame around the cpu socket, but nothing looks amiss under the protector cap thank goodness.

Pray for me, Wazza! I don't wanna have to go Clarance Boddicker on someone if this one flops :)
