Any info on flash memory based hard disks?

There are lots and lots of thoughts, and google will tell you far more than anyone here can. CES 2007 just last week had a few solid state disks on display for laptop systems.

Problem is that while seek times are amazing as there is no head tracking across a platter the throughput stinks ATM, now once they can sort that out we'll be in business.

Obviously at the moment this makes more sense for laptops are they are solid state and draw less power than a HD.

They did display 16GB to 128GB models AFAIK, and I think they'll be considerably less than the prices we're expecting - there's a huge amount of competition in this field now: Sandisk, Samsung, ADATA and Supertalent are all releasing large SSDs this year all with respectable data throughputs.
