My brother has 2x2gb corsair xms2 if I add 2x1gb xms2 will there be any issues? He has a gigabyte ga-ma790xt-ud4p motherboard. Atm he has 32bit vista which obviously can't address 6gb but I will give him the 64bit disk to install sometime soon.

In theory no, but you may find that you will need to up the MCH volatge by an increment or two as it can require more juice when filling all the DIMM slots.
Also, filling all the memory slots can destabilise an existing overclock - so if his system is heavily clocked it would be worth weighing up which would benefit him more (if the clock couldn't be maintained).
I had some problems with that setup. It would be fine for some time but then would start producing errors after the computer was on for a day or so which made it hard to troubleshoot.
I was using a Phenom 2 965 and I am pretty sure it was due to the memory controller having problems with 4 sticks or unequal size sticks. Raising the voltages didn't help.
Also like Plec said it reduces the overclock. It affects the maximum RAM frequency, CPU speed and NB freq and 2 x 2gb sticks with a higher system overclock would be faster in almost all scenarios.
