Any IT Contractors?

Good info in here thanks all, I'll be becoming a contractor within 2 years depending on how the Army redundancies pan out.

Bookmarked some of the links for further reading as well.

Bump for my post. I've been offered a contract, just got to wait for a piece of admin to finish then I'll be starting. Already chosen SJD to do my books, just need a company name to move forward. Anyone have any tips/ideas?

Makes no odds really, can use your initials or something as already said.

I'm through a company at the moment, but wasn't before. It depends on what the role is as well, I suppose.

I don't really want to involve my name at all, or initials. Initials wouldn't really work as they make very common abbreviations.

Well, use anything you like then, or something that is similar to the thing you're contracting in. What are you contracting in?

For example, I'm Cambridge Consultancy Group Ltd

Yup been a contractor for 16 years.

Best bet is go with someone like SJD or Nixon Williams as accountants who will setup everything for you (Google them). They will take you through everything. Might be worth reading up on www.contractoruk.com for the newbie guides as most questions are asked there every week.

Just want to quote this and agree with it. SJD were great for me, doing it through them meant I got more than if I was under an umbrella company.

There are other options that will get you even more money, but they are being monitored a lot more and you have to register as being in a tax avoidance scheme to HMRC iirc, which isn't a good thing.
