Any Javascript/PHP experts?

Hello chaps.

I've copied one website to another server and the index page loads up but when you click any of the links it just says the page cannot be found. For example site.com/about.html which is the link on the site but about.html doesn't exist anywhere!

The whole site seems to run from a javascript and I believe there will be some line of code somewhere which I need to change as the directories are different on the servers (httpdocs and public_html)

Is this an easy fix?

My brother has the original site and wants to amend this site into a personal portfolio and all he asked me to do was copy one to the other but it's more difficult than I thought.

That's PHP, not javascript. You may want to contact to a mod to change the thread title.

My guess would be there's something awry in the URL rewriting. Check you've copuied the .htaccess file properly.

htaccess doesn't exist (or I can't find it) on server 1 but it does on server 2.

A hash "#" in a htaccess file acts as a comment, it nullifies the line. So they've got # RewriteBase / and their instruction says to remove that if you're not linking to physical file paths, which I'm assuming Joomla doesn't.

Download the htaccess file or modify it direct on the server if you wish, delete that hash, save the htaccess file. Hard refresh one of your pages.

That would explain why the index works because that is a physical file.

can we see the copied site? are the links "correct"... try going to those links yourself i.e. by typing into browser and see what happens?

COuld be that you copied but you had to change some of the link creation to take into account the new "site" as it were..
