Hi,

I've been thinking of getting a laptop for a while now, but one thing hit me - they don't seem to have dedicated sound cards. I remember a massive jump in quality going from onboard desktop to my M-Audio card, so will a laptop sound rubbish playing through speakers (eg Aego M 2.1s)? Or are some better than others?

Thanks :)

Well M-Audio produces some nice sound cards but i am not aware if they have an external one for laptops. The only one i remember is the Audigy2NX which will provide a whole better audio quality than the one on-board.

I suppose you could get a USB sound card (don't know of any myself but I'm sure you can get them) if you really cared. You probably wouldn't be able to notice much of a difference though...

You can get some rather good USB sound cards. If not, your laptop might have a digital output which would cut out most of the electrical noise.

The Vaio SZ series had special care taken in audio quality,it has a Sound Reality chip is hooked up to a Intel High Definition Audio bus. not to mention its a fine looking computer!
