The last time I played WoW was about 7 months ago, without reading a load of patch notes, what are the biggest changes that have happened over the past 7 months?

Cheers

I don't know if i would agree with it being a whole new game. I would have said the same thing as the expansion and prior to that. The most exciting part imo will be to explore the changed world, but after that it's essentially a recycle of what we already know.

Not really a recycle if it's new content. You'll see some assets get re-used but for a game of this scale you can't be surprised.

Cataclysm is the biggest change the game has seen, it's more than an expansion really. 4.0.1 is the Cataclysm pre-patch and that has completely changed a lot of things.

The world changing patch is out soon.

Essentially, a huge dragon escapes his prison and nukes Azaroth. Lava, floods, pretty much everything gets changed. The damn in Loch Mordan's going to break, flooding varoius areas, and the barrens getting split in two. And you'll be able to fly there now :)

As has also been mentioned, there's been a HUGE class overhaul as well: http://www.wow-europe.com/en/patchnotes/ and http://www.wowwiki.com/Patch_4.0.1_(undocumented_changes)

But it's a recyle of the concept that doesn't really change. There is less innovation in the expansions which are providing fresh new ideas for the game. Don't get my wrong i enjoy playing the game, but it's nearly all more of the same. I'd rather quality over quantity

Thanks for the information guys.

I left the client downloading over night, but in the morning I looked at it and noticed it hadn't even moved and said I was downloading a 4GB/s.

Had to restart it and now I'm getting speeds of between 100KBs-300KBs which pretty much sucks, I should be getting about 700KBs on this connection. Is there anything I can do to make the client DL faster?

Cheers

Try turning off P2P in the game downloader settings, it often causes my connection (16Mb O2) to have the same symptom while the normal http download works fine.

one major reason that im not returning until i have my cata install disks....it comes with latest patch so i wont have to download shizzle.

There's a list of mirrors there, take your pick. Not a clue which ones will give good speeds though. You'll be wanting the:
3.3.x → 4.0.1.12911 Parts 1-4 — Full (~4.9-5.3 GiB)
