I know a few of you have been the to Maldives, some even visit regularly.

I'm looking to go for my first time. Luxury couples holiday.

Do you have any recommendations? Brochures are lovely and all, but each time I get totally disillusioned by Trip Advisor reviews :o

I went to Meeru Island Resort last summer on honeymoon. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to go on a luxury holiday to the Maldives. If you want anymore info, let me know.

been a few times but lasts years honeymoon on kuramathi through kuoni was hard to beat... top reef, food amazing, just perfect. island a little larger than most, but still felt castaway and always something to do.

it's only a 4 star island, but compared well with two 5 star ones been on for a fraction of cost

search on you tube for 'maldives kuramathi omgboohoo' and you can see videos I shot

problem with meeru is there is no house reef (nearest 10mins away), so if you like snorkeling / diving you have to have a boat trip every time. nice island though

Another Vote for kuramathi... Water Bungalow's are lovely and snorkeling from your own steps is great!!..

just having a look through the links posted is all inclusive not really how it's done in the maldives? They all seem fairly restrictive in terms of what you get.

I'm pretty sure that All Inclusive is the only way you would want to do it, unless you are happy to be spending loads of money out there.

The main restaurant at Velingandu was superb; a fantastic choice of dishes all presented amazingly. This was all included in the AI, including bottled water, beer and house wine etc, none of which weren't up to standard.

The cost of a bottle of water had we not been AI was something like $8! Obvously they have to set some rules, but in what way are you feeling they are restrictive?

IMHO the last thing you want to be thinking about is 'how much is this going to cost'. The whole point of somewhere like the Maldives is to forget about all your worries, chill out and fully relax....at the same time as indulging yourself to as much nice food and drink as possible :D

You deffo want all inc as you are stuck on a island so you can't go anywhere else.

On Kuramathi we had a select all inc package which meant all you could drink water, wine (bottled at table), cocktails (over 75) and dining at any one of 7 restaurants which were all themed.

Best one we eat at was the island BBQ where they cooked steak dianne tableside, best steak i'd ever eaten which was quite a surprise for the middle of indian ocean

One was called 'the reef', where you sat pretty much on beach and eat freshly cooked fish... just heaven

Another vote for all inclusive, the only way to go really.

Me and the girlfriend went to Kuredu

http://www.kuredu.com/

Its one of the bigger islands and does have families there although we never really seen them.

We were in a beach bungalow and id say it was the best place, the quiet side of the island.

We chose Kuredu because of the activities etc, we didnt really do many, water skiing, dolphin cruise etc but if you like snorkeling or scuba diving then its ideal, they have a big population of manta ray who are close to the island and we regularly seen. We also swam with turtles which is really cool!

The tea bar on the end of the pier is nice in the evening, its not included in the AI price but its quiet and nice to chill out for a couple of hours.

I think anywhere you go you'll love it.

I wasn't suggesting you'd want to not go all-inc, just that a lot of them seem a bit restrictive, not all bars/restaurants, not the mini-bar, only house spirits etc, just seems a bit tight for the level of hotels they are, I'd expect unlimited water to be a given. Then again my only all-inc experience is Riviera Maya in Mexico.

Only been once and it was to Kuramathi and it is a superb place to go, food was amazing, snorkelling and amount of marine life was great.

One & Only Reethi Rah's probably the best hotel there. Absolutely amazing, haven't found anywhere better in the world yet!

Been to Bandos Island and Spa and stayed in a luxury villa booked through Kuoni. Highly recommend it.

As others have said, go full board/all inclusive. It's very expensive out there.

Shall certainly be returning to the Maldives shortly.
