Any method to purchase Tax?

I don't know why some of these insurance companies don't get their fingers out.
I bought a brand new car five years ago, I was insured with Prudential at the time.
Phoned them up once I had the registration of the new car and they sent the insurance documents directly to the dealership and they arrived the next day.
A year ago I bought another new car, this time Direct Line were my insurer.
Once again, called the day I found out my new registration number and they had the documents directly to the dealer the next morning.

I just added my policy number and reg details to a scanned copy of an old cert of insurance changed the dates etc...presto, although a bit fraud-u-like its not too bad cos i was actually insured and when the real; document came through they were identical!

This is what I ended up doing.

Woman looked at the dates like WTF as they had start June 05. I explained that this was because I just changed the car on my policy.

The woman said don't worry I can see it's on headed paper

EDIT - Would like to clarify I did not use fake details and I am insured on this car under the policy number used.
