I'm looking for a beginners book for playing piano. I've got a basic understanding of how to read music, but would like a book to teach me the proper techniques, finger placement etc.. I've had a surf around Amazon etc.. but I just don't trust reviews any more as I know they are all false and paid for.

I'd strongly recommend a good teacher rather than just learning from a book. I garnered far more in a couple of lessons than I did in months of self-tuition.

What about youtube? You can learn to do brain surgery on youtube these days. Or anything else really :-)

Spend money on lessons

If you can't afford lessons then Synthesia https://synthesiagame.com/ is a very versatile program to help you learn as it takes playing and turns it into a game, so you can challenge yourself, also shows you correct finger positions

I subscribed to this for a few months just to refresh on the fundamentals, mainly technique (used to play when I was much younger)

it was great but too expensive to have unless you using it a lot

Thanks for the suggestions. I bought the keyboard for my 5 year old and intend to get her lessons, so maybe I could go for the same lessons and gauge how the teacher is.
