Any network (computers) wizards on here?

1st time poster here, so forgive me if ive posted in the wrong section, but am after some advice.

So with the amount of computers, tablets, xbox's in the house, i need to find a way of limiting use of the tablets that connect to the wifi router, so they cant exceed a certain speed, as one of my main hobbies is gaming (yes i know, but we all need our sad hobbies!) and i need to have a certain speed left for online gaming or i just get lag.

any ideas on the best way to do this? as i know with laptops you can get software which limits each computer to certain speeds but i couldn’t find any for the andriod system.

Best way to implement this is using the modem/router, specifically something called Quality of Service (QoS). Basically, you tell it to prioritise gaming traffic over other traffic. However, not all routers support this, if your's doesn't it might be a good upgrade considering its a centralised and relatively easy solution than implementing something on each of the other computers/tablets.

Not entirely sure QoS alone would be able to guarantee a stable connection for games if someone was streaming HD video or downloading large files as well.

Some routers can also set speed limits on certain traffic types or for certain IP address/Devices so this can be used to control the flow of things whilst you're gaming.

You need to list your route too. QoS is certainly the way to go although its not completely infallible.

Yes my router has QoS, it allows me to set it up via the web based screen, and there is also a button on the router.

My router is TP Link, TP-W896ON

Any advice much appreciated on how to set this up.

I don't have experience with that router, however this discussion may be a good starting point.

As mentioned above, it isn't a perfect solution, but it's free (other than your time) so it's worth trying it before moving on to other solutions.

Cheers for the link, only just had a chance to see now, although when i read "complicated" i'm sat here thinking "oh great, typical" !! however like you say its free and just my time so will see if i can set this up.
