Any news on the next gen?

I'd put money on the next xbox being released no later than christmas 2013. From all the statements that various devs have made, it seems clear that microsoft are already sending out development kits or whatever you call them.

As much as I'd like cutting edge tech in the new consoles, costs will have to be kept to a minimum. Few people will buy a £400 console at the moment and I'd expect them to cost £250-300 maximum.

Didn't I read somewhere a few days ago that the new consoles would be able to output that fancy demo (unreal?) which is running on three 580's sli at 720p and 30 fps. Not bad if true.

still one fun problem for ms, will they pic up bluray or not.

sure we can download and stream stuff, but with some games at 20+gigs i cant see many users being happy to download them.

The next xbox wont have a standard DVD drive, I think that much is a given and if they have any interest in it being some sort of all-in-one entertainment centre then it would have to be a BD drive. I cant see MS doing a Nintendo so cant imagine it not having a BD drive...

ps3ud0

Whatever is launched the pc crowd will laugh at the spec and say they are doomed from the start. Comments like "is that it?" "That is so 2009!" Etc etc.

Its a 6670 not a 6770 no idea what the performance difference is, but I would take it with a pinch of salt its possibly just to get some initials kits knocked up to get game development started, who knows if it will actually be the card in the final product.

yeah in the current dev kits that are rumoured to be out and about. wouldnt be surprised if a 7770 ends up in the 720 as its faster and cooler. but with them using another pc based gfx chipset they could end up slapping a 8*** gen card in if the prices are low enough and depending when its due to ship.

as for downloading all its content thats going to back fire on them as some people wont be over joyed at the thought of having to download 20+ gigs, be it the time limit to get the data or the bandwidth it will eat out of some peoples low monthly caps.

I'm worried with the rumours of Microsoft including "kinect 2" with the next Xbox and the rumoured touch screen controller also included this will force them to cut corners and costs on the most important parts: the CPU GPU RAM etc. Although an iPod touch sized screen in the centre of the Xbox pad would be cool for certain things like making subs, tactics etc on FIFA without pausing (especially online) and maybe displaying maps etc on first person games, would the cost really be worth it? especially with Microsoft moving towards hands free gesture games, apps etc. I would rather have a extre gig of RAM instead.

Yeah, the economy isn't exactly as it was in 2005. Sony has a good chance of going bust within ten years as well, and their PS4 will reflect this with relatively weak hardware. This has a knock-on effect of Microsoft deciding not to go as far with their hardware either. They're both aware of each other's situation.

It's not just Sony to be fair, a lot of the Japanese companies like Panasonic and Sharp along with Sony are struggling due to the increasing value of the Yen and the supply problems from the Taiwan floods last year. Sony's also restructuring the TV department which accounts for a large chunk of the loss.

Also they will include Blu ray as they are aiming for the all in one entertainment box under your tv. I hope they expand the marketplace to download all games released so you have the option to buy physical media or my preference for digital downloads, maybe with a reduced price to help push the trend or some extra content

Today the devs of The Witcher have announced they ar currently working on 2 games for the next generation un-named console ( ahem new xbox) The first is due out in 2014 and the second 2015 ish. So there you have it proof of the next gen in development and the dates lol

I am looking forward to the next gen playstation 4 , have a feeling it will be a couple of years away yet , still think sony will back the playstation 3 until 2014 or later

I will be interesting what the playstation 4 spec would be and price

The blu-ray drive is what soared prices for the PS3, this won't be the case this time and they can definitely be in line with Microsoft on pricing.

I've been a pretty strong 360 supporter this gen but if the next one has gimmicks like a built in kinnect or screen in the controller I'll jump ship pretty fast. At then end of the day all I want out of a games console is a games console, certainly not jumping up and down after a hard day at work.
