Just wondering if there were any other like minded people on this forum who dive in the UK or abroad?

Padi Open Water :) usually in Dubai. My girlfriend is an instructor. She just did 6 weeks in Indonesia, lucky cow.

im a padi instructor, i was working in thailand for a year teaching.

ive just come back from egypt (sharm) diving. tbh, i wasn't all that impressed with the diving there.

Ever been to Ellerton?

Lol, yeah unfortunatly! I did my AoW navigation dive in that muddy puddle! Still if you can navigate in 3m vis then you're good to go.

I'm doing my Rescue diver course in two weeks, which means we'll probably end up in Capenwray.

Paulus - I'm surprised you didn't like egypt, where were you diving? A lot of the local reefs are looking a bit tired now, but Tiran & Ras Mohamed still offer some good sights. Although I've never been to Thailand so can't compare.

I got some some ok photos from a recent trip to Sharm though...

Having trained in the UK and done my time at stoney cove and Oban and lovely cold places I then did some warm weather diving in Sipidan, Borneo. I am ashamed to say I have never dived in the UK since. Been a few years since I have been so I guess I would need a refresher, but I am thinking about maybe a live aboard holiday next year.

PADI Open Water here - took it when I was 15 in Cyprus - haven't dived since :(

Loved it though :)

Ras Mohamed was good. Had a few nice dives there, didnt make it to tiran. The local dive sites just all looked tired and lacking in colour and vibrancy (sp?) that i remember from the red sea from years ago. (taba)

Ive also got some pics, but i need to go through them. will post some up when i get a chance. Though im not too impressed with my photography skills.

Can I ask what camera you were using for them shots?

Chris

Fuji F30 It's a nice camera because if was the first in the F series to offer an Underwater mode, which helps put some of the red back into the shots. Manually adjusting your white balance is the best solution, but it involves taking a white slate down with you.

Best Dive I ever did was a UK dive in the Farne islands... diving with seals is amazing so much more interactive than with fish!

Going to Dahab in 2 weeks to get my Advanced open water and nitrox. Im there 5 weeks in total and cant wait, ive only done try dives before. Going with http://www.gapyeardiver.com

Chris

I am very jealous! You will LOVE it. I did the exact same qualifications there last year. You will obviously get to dive 'the canyon' and 'the blue hole' which are both must do sites. If they aren't on your agenda already, make them on your agenda right now!

Dahab itself is fantastic for a night out, make sure you visit 'the furry cup' which is a very cool bar attached to a dive center. You can even get a great steak there and bacon!

Just take some of that sanitising gel to wash your hands without water when handling money. Oh and pack your tummy pills for when you get the runs!

I've just about finished the Open Water Referral (Everything bar the actual open water dives) in the UK, just got my 4th knowledge review and the big final test left,

Then in June I'm going with my dad (Who's currently a BSAC instructor and should be PADI instructor as well before we go) and my sister (currently PADI Open Water) where I'll be finishing off the Open Water and then probably doing the Advanced Open Water as well, and some just normal dives as well :p

Even though I've only done confined dives I'm loving it and can't wait to get out to the open water to do it properly. I can see myself doing quite a few diving holidays as soon as I can get the money together for them. Not sure about diving in the UK though, seems like it'll be a tad cold :p

yeap im a padi instructor too

sharm is crappy, but its got some cool places to go for deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep (techie) diving but then again there are better places to go....

Yup, PADI Advanced Open Water, i think thats it, its the highest one you get before you have to start spending silly money...

Ive never dived in the UK, frankly its too cold to wear a wetsuit and i cant be bothered with a dry suit tbh. Dived in Mexico, Cyprus and Jamaica, Mexico being the best diving ive seen so far, although the wrecked ferry in Cyprus is a wreck dive i'll never forget.

What was Mexico like? I'm desperate to go there.

Dubai was awesome. Went up to the north to Fajera. Vis was not quite as good as Egypt but still got a good distance. The sites were awesome, with loads of cliff dives and wreck dives. Saw Sharks and Turtles on my first ever dive! (Black tip reefs iirc). Plenty of porcupine fish (bigguns too, no fear. they just swim right up to your face). Was much better than i expected for the Gulf, and is easily my favourite spot.
