Any OcUK Divers?

I had a week in Gran Canaria at the beginning of last December which was ace. Plenty of wrecks and nothing that required a lengthy trip beforehand. There in an artificial reef out there which was part of a university project and it covers a massive site.

Can anyone recommend a decent yet not too expensive dive computer?

Suunto Gekko is a good first computer, you can even hack it and change it's version ID to that of the Vyper. Which means you can then connect it to your PC and download your Dive profiles.

[necro] Thinking about trying diving in the nearish future, what training courses will i need to do to get qualified? and what's a ballpark figure on how much it will cost? [/necro]

noooooo!

Another thread that makes me look at my PADI Open Water card and realise I havent Dived in 4 years and miss it so much!

When I get soem decent funds up and running (aka, stop being a student) ill get back into it.

BSAC Sports diver here.

Loving the UK diving. Had an awesome weekend in Plymouth not long ago and got the James Egan and the Scilla in perfect conditions. :)

Panzer

BSAC sports diver here! - not dived in 3 years - only done 15 dives iirc all in the indian ocean!

Learnt to dive in Indonesia to PADI AOW. Absolutely loved it but it's probably going to be a while before I get to go again. Must get around to diving in the UK.

BSAC Sports Diver here also. Did it in the south of France with my friend's dad and a bunch of friends. Was amazing, especially the night dives. The fish are just so docile and you see way more! Haven't done it for a couple of years and missing it big style, but other priorities at the moment.

Anyway PADI seem to outnumber the BSAC people. Blardy commercial safety unaware mickey mouse boys :p.

Padi Advanced Open Water diver here
Learnt in Thailand, did 22 dives, loved it!

Going diving in the UK (Scilly) in 3 weeks, lets try a dry suit on...

For those in the know - is it incredibly different from wet suit? ie. Boyancy control etc?

surely thats since you have to partially inflate the suit anyway! I havent used one - i have just mostly used short arm and leg wetsuits

PADI AOW here, but not dived since last year in Cuba...

I am looking at progressing it further when me and the missus move to New Zealand, hopefully to Instructor and do a job I would truly enjoy :)

Im a semi-dry kind of guy :p but you'll need a whole heap of weights to keep you under in a dry suit. Make sure you keep your feet down too :p

not got any certs but dived in maldives, a lot of fish but dead coral :(

kenya in Kisite national park, lovely corals and fish...

Padi Open Water here :) Get it a year ago in cuba, loved it. Dad's a advanced open water diver, but he should be getting a new dive computer soon so i get his Gekko :)

Having done loads of "introductory" dives around the world, I decided to get my OW certification. Have my final four OW certification dives this coming weekend, so here's hoping I pass. The only problem I have is that I have mistakenly run out of contact lenses, and my next supply isn't due till after the weekend. Still with the magnification through the water, I think I will be OK.

I intend to do mainly UK diving, though I won't be saying no to trips to warm places :) I'll also take the advice of my instructor and not go card collecting. I'll probably get 15 or so dives under my belt before going for AOW.
