Any of you guys use console on pc monitor?

What happens when you plug a console into a 16:10 monitor? Is it shockingly bad?

Depends if it has a 1:1 pixel mapping option. Monitors with 1:1 run 16:9 resolutions with black bars top and bottom and the correct aspect ratio.

The U2412M doesn't so you need to pick a 16:10 resolution to start with. The highest one on the 360 via VGA is 1680x1050. There is a 1920x1080 option, but that stretches the image vertically to fill the panel.

I'm currently using a 46" LCD television but I've been thinking for awhile that I want to get a PC monitor and play from that. I don't play many PC games but I was playing the original Cossacks a few months back, and realised how much more immersive the game feels when you're up close with it.

Input lag is certainly almost always better, however SONY have just released a new television that has 8ms input lag, which is a class leader at the moment.

I have a Sony Bravia LCD tv hooked up via HDMI and I havn't noticed any input lag, is there any way of measuring it directly? Other than a sense of, erm, delay?

I do actually. I do have a 42" Plasma in my room also with my Xbox360 and sometimes the PS3 hooked upto it. But i actually use my 120Hz ASUS VG27H because its right next to my PC so i can use my second monitor to do PC stuff whilst playing my PS3, also gives me a chance to test out the 3D on the PS3.

Any reason you would pay more for a 120hz monitor when a console can't output at that hz?

I have tried to use my 360 and PS3 on my 120hz monitor and couldn't get away with it. It just felt 'off' somehow, so I use my Dell S2409W which is 60hz and I much prefer it. There is no way I would spend £300 on a monitor just for console gaming.

Yeah it will of been because it wasn't running at its native refresh rate of 120 or 144hz. Anyone tried a good IPS monitor on their consoles? How's the colours?

went shopping yesterday and bought Last of US and played it to my acer projector connected to ps3 off course, fantastic :-)

There's a few youtube videos that shows how to test for lag, most games are forgiving. Just that competitive genres like fighting games, where inputs needs to be spot on.. A setup with less lag will give an edge to top players.

Howevr as I am so close to the screen and used to playing games at 1080p high settings etc on pc , I do notice the reduced quality on console more when I use my monitor compared to when I'm lounging on my sofa with it hooked up to my tv.
This.

I would not reccomend sitting in front of a monitor for this reason. However if you are able to sit futher away then it will look better, but if you sit at your desk at the same distance you use your pc well...some games will look terrible.

The only game I tried that I was content with the way it looked on a monitor from a small distance was Gran Turismo 5, probably something to do with being a optimised ps3 exclusive and also being rendered in 1080p.

Mainly so both monitors match as they're on the same desk. Also, in case the newer consoles could display at those hz. The matching was the most important thing however! :)

It's a bit of a leap in my opinion, without it being mentioned somewhere.

Given that 1080p 60fps is still the holy grail for console games to try and attain to I can't see it.
