Any older CPU still worth a purchase?

For a short term upgrade from his 3570 non k... will the 3770k be ok then.. what would cause the CPU to die as he doesn't wanna spend money on something that won't last long at all...

Don't pay eBay prices, massive rippoff.

Sometimes you see decent deals on the members market.

But generally, second hand CPUs aren't any sort of great bargain these days.

I was looking for a 3770k to replace my 2500k but prices ranged anywhere up to £200! So I just bought a 6700k new instead.

Better off paying a bit more and getting the latest gen.

At the right price it would be ok, but that is difficult to find. I'd be more concerned about the motherboard dying than the CPU because if the board did die (it happens) then you're left with a CPU and no way of getting a reasonably priced board to get back up and running again.

It's for that reason I just wouldn't bother unless you're lucky enough to find an absolute bargain CPU.

No they aren't. Their IPC is pretty low, and X79 second hand board is expensive.
Someone could be better off with the Ryzen 5 6-core and a B350 board and overclock, could be better off in the long term than buying into a 4 year old dead system without upgrade path.
Definitely. While 3930k's can be picked up, it's only best to buy included with a motherboard at a good price for both. Sourcing X79 motherboards at decent prices is now like getting X58 motherboards at decent prices; rocking horse poo.
