Any one know if any of the Counter Strike games are good??

Although I think 1.6 is the better game I recommend source. If you appreciate the better game play that 1.6 offers you can quite easily put aside the dated graphics but not sure that would happen for someone new to the series.

Actually this is a really weird problem, it only crashes when i kill somebody, occasionally i get to the second one, but when bots kill each other it's fine (haven't tried online yet).

Could anybody do me a quick favor and tell me what the launch command is? I want to run it in terminal, see what happens.
 
Its fun, both are similar depending on how pretty you want it. Plus its cheap in the Steam sale.

Have you got Multi-Core Rendering enabled in the Video - Advanced options? If so, disable it.

I, and many others, had the same problem. Why they put the option for it in the game when it blatantly never works is beyond me.


1200 hours played and I'm still not bored of Source. Probably one of my best purchases ever.
 
fun depends on you for me they used up years of my life and I really got my moneys worth
played 1.6 from beta on lans and 56k modem up to source on my bb which i do prefer was just more polished
but not touched either in over 5 years would rather pluck out my eyes with a fork

but if you do play either find one good server and stick to it become a regular or find a clan and play matches
 
it's awesome for its day...was the best shooter of its kind hands down..... I was pretty dam good at it too by public server standard.....it's designed for the serious gamers though as you need to have good aim and reactions, if you are a casual gamer you'll get owned

If the graphics are updated but the game mechanics remain the same it could steal me away from BF3...wanted to know what the new version will play like (CS GO) - not released yet.
 
Personally hated CSS and wasn't much of a fan of 1.6 either. 1.6 definitely has better hit detection, whilst in CSS you have to aim behind the player to hit the hitbox which is just daft. Use to make maps for both and enjoyed that far more than actually playing the games.
 
Anyone played jailbreak mod? What...is that about. It's like some ultra strange personality cult, I didn't get it at all.

CS 1.6 is my favourite, it feels more "pure" for me as it's the first one I played so is the game I learned to love. A lot of people don't like the fact that it looks really very dated now, especially people who played CS Source first. To me, 1.6 feels smooth and streamlined, without anything getting in the way of the core gameplay. Playing CS Source, in comparison, feels like I'm playing through a "window" so to speak. It's hard to explain.

CS:S (Source) is the real sequel to CS 1.6, any others you see on steam are just a bunch of crap :p It uses the source engine from Half Life 2, which brings much better graphics, sound and physics. There is widespread debate about which has superiour gameplay, I've noticed that people tend to like the one they got in to first, as then the other seems to just "feel wrong" to them.

It's one of those games that you can really hook your reactions/muscle memory into. It can also get extremely addictive if you play with a regular crew and use VOIP.

You will still get your ass handed to you, it's just that sort of game :p

It's regarded as "The" FPS, and in my opinion if you've not played it, you're not really a PC gamer!
 
The learning curve is very steep nowadays. CS:Source is good fun, CS 1.6 probably too competitive. you have CS:S deathmatch mods to get to grips with the games.

It's not as fast paced as the MW games and more tactical.

Its not css, weird rules. Might as well play bf3 or something


css is just about how fast is your ping and also how well do you use it. The reason the game lasted this is that if you get two players with similar pings then you start playing to bluff them or rush them, etc
I think its like poker lol Nothing like out flanking those AWP plebs or rushing with a p228 at round start and catching them off guard


This is the grandson to the old Doom serial cable fights we used to have, unless you wanted to try quake instead which can be had free I dont think much compares. CSS has a bit more thinking to it then deathmatch games, TF2 is also free, try that
