i been having a mammoth session of super metroid on the SNES. i played it when i was in my teens and loved it, finished, moved on to psx,ps2,xbox etc and played the Wii versions of prime as well, i found that i enjoyed playing the original on a much older system than the newer shiney versions.

anybody else found this with any other games?

the ones that come to mind are:
original spyro > any spyro after spyro 3
need for speed porsche 2000 > any modern need for speed game
worms armageddon > all other worms games*

*the other worms games werent bad, but armageddon was such a classic

im sure theres more, but i cant remember most of the damned things

Some games just don't translate well, though I don't agree with Metroid.

Super Metroid and Metroid Prime are both excellent in their own rights.

However stuff like Sonic, the original games are soooo much better than the 3D ones.

Street Fighter II, Tetris, Donkey Kong Country, Pokemon, Smash Bros Melee, Mario Kart series (DS and SMK are the best easily), Goldeneye, Halo 2, Half Life, Final Fantasy 6... there are loads.

Crash Bandicoot - Most of the main series after 3, Twinsanity was okay and Wrath of Cortex was good but frustrating and had very long loading times.

Alone in the Dark 1,2,3 >>>>>>>>>Alone in the Dark (Re-imagineing I believe these are called). PC, but the newer version was on console.

Spyro as mentioned.

Personally, SF2 Turbo was the pinnacle of the SF2 series.

I have that game on ZX Spectrum, worst port ever, and I had to wait weeks for it to arrive from a postal mail order company.

After one fight you had to change tapes  and load the next fight for the next stage.

Looking at the YouTube video it shows amazing skill to have made something like that for the spectrum.

Rainbow Six. Rogue Spear was superb, Raven Shield was pretty good, everything after that has been atrocious.

It saddens me that there's seemingly so little demand for a good, tactical shooter these days. SWAT seems long gone now with little chance of return, all that's really left to carry the flame is ArmA.

Burnout 3.

Blows away any other Burnout.

Also Metal Slug 3 or even X, obviously blows away 6.

Grand Theft Auto 3 compared to GTA 1 & 2, is an obvious one.

The Dragon Warrior/ Quest series should never have gone past the PS1 top-down DQ7 :(
DQ8 is iffy, and things get worse from there on in.
