I just had a friend ask me to call his after work and when I got there I found a pile of hardware.
He ain went to uni 5 years ago and only just came back. The lads is autistic and doesn’t understand the concept of getting rid of old things…

He had an LL120 fan box with a few CPU’s in it…. 2500k, 3470s, 7700k, 8600k, 8700k 10900kf and a 13900kf

I was like WOW…. And he said and I quote.. if there any good to you, you can have them
Obviously I said no..

There was motherboard, GPU’s fans psu’s it was insane haha.

We have said we will build a few systems and sell them.
Dose anyone else do this… I have a spare cpu and a very old GPU but nothing like this

I have an ATI 9700 Pro in the drawer, some RAM too...tons of old crap.

I also have a Pentium III CPU with the heatsink still attached (I salvaged this from the skip one day when it appear outside my uni halls of residence, was going to drill it and make it into a keyring).

He only have 3 GPU’s plus the one he was using. 970, 1080ti 2080 4080.
Fans he has about 9 ll120 and a few ql120’s and 2 commander pros.. he had one and got a new one for his new pc because the one he had was in use…

He could easy build 3 good pc’s.

All he’s motherboards are top end or even limited edition..

He had a ek 360 AIO that was a signed edition that he was very happy to have

I wouldn't say I'm a hoarder or a collector of parts, I just seem to keep some of them for one reason or another and then forget about them!

While clearing out the loft recently I found this lot buried in the numerous boxes....

In no particular order, there's a 9700Pro, MX200, Diamond Stealth 64, X1900XTX, HD4870 almost all modified in some way. I see this as evidence that I used to by ATI/AMD GPUs once upon a time.
There's enough CD/DVD rewriters to make a jukebox and some thingy's to stick your floppy in to. The crappy PSUs were ripped out from old donor systems and kept because they may come in "handy" but they've since been binned. What's not in the image above are the two motherboards I used for such a long time - a Soyo KT333 Dragon Ultra and an infamous DFI LanParty RDX200.

I've been in this game for too long :D.

It drives me mad because I lose so much value - nothing mad but an i7 920 probably worth 100 quid is now sitting with ram and mobo worth less than 20. I also have a 7800gt in the attic that's been to three of my houses.

I then feel 20 quid isn't worth the off chance I may possibly need it in the future for whatever nuts reason. Plot twist I now need to build some kind of basic pc for the gym so it has actually played out this time...

You actually if he had something like this to donate to he would feel better than selling the parts. He genuinely thinks that’s have zero value and almost sold his 13900kf to a random person online for £40 to reclaim the gold….

I think I've currently got about 6 complete old PC's, some going back 12+ years (about the only thing they're missing is hard drives)...
4 of them have been sitting in the garage since the start of covid waiting for the tip but things keep coming up that mean they don't get taken when I go.

In my defence I've been the tech support/PC repair/PC supplier for my nephews etc (so some of them have been loaned out/returned repeatedly and kept for spares), we have 3 (current) ones in routine use here, and 2 of the old ones are only about 6-9 months past being retired but I'm hanging onto as functional spares and because I haven't managed to migrate my locally stored emails to a new client yet (I've got ~20 years of orders/forum related stuff on one)..

I used to have loads… but I stopped building/upgrading computers and haven’t done so in over 15 years, all the parts went to get recycled via work.

I still have complete computers thou.. p4 d shuttle with ati 9800 pro, loads of laptops, NUCs, Apple computers….

Sure. I was severely addicted to buying pc parts and I've got 400-500 CPUs and about 100 GPUs. Fortunately the last generation I've bought was 12th gen intel and rtx3000/RX6000 for GPUs. I have got to make sure I don't slip back into it as I am often tempted.

I think if you're savvy it's possible to move parts on with little cost if you sell at the right time. @Jumper118 I've I nice crisp £20 note ready for you for that crappy old 3090 you've got knocking about taking up space
