Any point in upgrading 1080ti @ 1440 Res ?

Got a similar set up to yours and I am not upgrading yet either. I will be looking for at least at 2080 Ti performance for £500 or less next year.

Good luck with that. Unless AMD get seriously competitive there's no way on earth 2080Ti performance will be less than £750 let alone £500.

Who mentioned £500?

2080 Super is less than £700

This is what I was referring to. The 2080S will almost certainly still be slower than a 2080Ti and >£700. Expecting above 2080Ti performance for £500 next year is very unrealistic in my opinion.

It may be, but otherwise there will be very little point for me to upgrade. You can already get 1080ti performance for £380 (5700 XT). I paid £579 in October last year for that privilege. At that point it was either £700+ for 2080 or £1000+ for 2080ti and I had to upgrade at my 980 was very limiting in many games.

I am hoping that with the renewed AMD effort a 2080ti (or slightly better) card will be available for £500 or under next year. I don't think I am asking for the moon here.

No way, 1080ti is still a beast of a GPU. IM still using one in my second rig which is my sim racing rig, which is running triple Gigabyte Aorus 1440p monitors. I'm having no issues what so ever.

Wait till next year's offerings.

Absolutely but that's only because AMD became competitive at that performance level. They have not got there with the 2080Ti yet and until they do I wouldn't expect it to come down much in price.

Competition is good.

Depends how much you value graphical fidelity. I'm fine turning options down on my 2080 at 4k. If you're not.. then yolo. Heck.. I played KCD at 1440p on my 4k screen to hit decent FPS.

I've been offered a brand new MSI 2080 Ti Gaming X Trio for fraction under £1k.

I'm really tempted, I know the current market is still at the top end, but, Im debating whether to see if there is a 2080Ti Super.

I would say dont. I thought my 1080ti handled my x34 3440x1440 monitor just fine and had I not gone to a 4k monitor, would not of gone 2080ti at all.

They have but it looks like the stupidly expensive rig Strix ones as far as the Asus site goes.

Oh right, i had a look but I couldn't see any with an 'S' designation and assumed there weren't any.

Yeh, I won't pay ROG tax so that's me out for this generation of cards.

I think as others have said, it depends how many FPS you want and at what image fidelity.

A 1080ti will likely play everything comfortably but not at max settings with AA etc.

Iv waited a year so far on with my 1080ti Zotac amp extreme. I was the first to get it on release day at the store. No way would i need a 2080ti for my 144 hz triples, though there is a case to consider to get a bit more out of VR. An extra 20-30% power to run an Index, Cosmos, Vive Pro or Reverb would be nice. But if i can just hold on till next year and go for a 3080ti an extra 50% plus from a 1080ti would be awsome. I really do not want to waste the money, like everyone says it is not worth it. So much so that im considering getting a Rift S knowing that it will run better on the 1080ti at 80fps and can max everytrhing out and have a smoother experience than my Vive pro which always seems to want more. It might be less of a waste of money to spend that £400 as a stop gap and enjoy the Index or Pro better next year with a higher powered 3080ti meaning it can run with all the bells and whistles.

A 1080Ti should still be fine and a couple of setting adjustments will likely net you similar performance to a 2080Ti anyway. Your losing around 30% over a 2080Ti both with a decent overclock.

I mainly bought my 2080Ti for 4k 60hz where it does extremely well, however it is still a very quick card at 1440p and the improvement over a 1080Ti at least to me is noticeable too.

If it was a £600 card id say go for it, but at the price they are its up to you to justify if you can live without an extra 30% performance.

It used to be the case that it was worth upgrading GPUs every generation. Just like CPUs, that's no longer the case. I went from SLI Titan XM to a 2080 Ti and the boost is most noticeable. But unless there's some killer feature - or I feel indulgent towards my nephew :D - I'll be skipping Nvidia's next series of GPUs and getting the series after.
