Any point upgrading yet ? I have i5 2500K

I purchased i5 2500K about 2 years ago now and from looking at Benchmarks its seems pointless upgrading.

I play Games on Ultra settings with GTX6950 1920 x 1080 res No problem at all- So should I just wait another year ?
 
Wait at the very least a year imo. I only upgraded to an 2500k this year now that used ones are cheap enough. It's got a good few years before an upgrade would make a big enough difference.
 
wait another year. Possibly spend upgrade cash on a new gfx card. Newer titles are vram hungry so you might want to get a card with more mem, 7970 or maybe one of the new AMD cards due for release this year.
 
Cheers Yes I was thinking maybe 7970 or 680 as they have come down in price loads :) Think Ill upgrade the Graphics card then just for now.
 
I have a 2500k running at 4.5ghz, can run it at 4.8 if needed. Will only upgrade when Intels 6-8 core chips are affordable (for the masses) or i'm swayed by AMD's offerings.

This is what I was planing. But then I think what's has e got over a 4770k. Unless you go for a 6 core all you are really gaining quad channel ram over dual on z87, and I would guess that most games will still not really be coded to take full advantage of all 6 cores. Will the performance of has e really be that much better than a 4770 for gaming to really . Merit the associative difference ?
 
I have an X58 i7 920 @ 4.2ghz and I can't see the worth in even upgrading that, certainly nothing worth upgrading to if you've a 2500k.
 
As far as overclocking gains are concerned has anything out-done the 2500k since its release? I wouldn't know as very happy with this chip & haven't bothered too much with the newer technology specifications.

I've had mine 2 years now and intend to keep it for at least another 2, so thats 4 years out of one cpu. I'll upgrade to high end air when I need the extra performance and then overclock the pants off it, just like my Q6600 :)
 
Most of the CPU improvements lately seem to be more related to power saving than performance. The 2500K has still got a few years left before an upgrade will see significant difference in performance. Spend your cash on a new GPU.

I'd say you should upgrade. You'll definitly be getting bottlenecks with your graphics card being from the year 2120.
 
I say keep it to I have a 2500k and can't fault it had it 2 years and still going strong. Do what I will be doing getting a ssd and upgrade my gpu and couple other bits
 
I agree with the others here, spend that upgrade money on a new graphics card or SSD (if you don't already have one). Could even spend it on a new sound card- any of these things would make more real world benefit to the gaming experience than a new CPU. I recently built a new computer for my brother with a 2500k, so it still has a fair way to go.
