Any problems with having a car cover on on a public road?

Cheap car covers that do not fit properly do more damage to the paintwork than they prevent. The cover blowing in the wind has a really bad habbit of leaving lots of little scratches all over a decent finish so if you do need a car cover it is worth spending money on one that is well fitting and doesnt damage your paintwork. So I agree with Phate on the whole getting a decent cover (if its needed)

Regarding the tax disc thing- yes it needs to be displayed so if they want to screw you over they have every right to.

I went on recommendations and the fact I know 2 people IRL that have them so can see the results first hand.

Won't the results be *An MG under a cover*? I can guess what that'd look like! (At least i didn't call it a Rover!)

As much as sap and crap can mess up your car, dont you think pulling a cover over it every night (and giving the grill a goodnight kiss as you tuck it in) might scrath, wear and scrape on the paintwork too?

A big sheet and 4 bricks would have done the same job, but in the end, its your money, or lack thereof now! :)

I think the point is that a superbike or classic car is rather different from a Rover 45.

ok i give you that, but thats his choice. I cant immagine spending that much on a cover but if he want to spend his money on that.... well his choice but i dont see a problem with the law so to speak.
