Hi is there any program at all which would help me monitor or block Windows start up programs , the laptop i am trying to fix has so many rubbish on the buttom of the destkop so when it start it takes ages to load all of them ???

Not sure if start - run - msconfig helps , trying now again !

can you uninstall many of them?

windows defender (made by ms) has a good one

once it's installed, go into the options and disable the 'real-time scanner' it slows your pc down a bit when it's enabled, daily scans are fine..

in control panel, there'll be a 'software explorer' which lets you choose the startup programs :)

Why clog your system up, when msconfig is simple and easy to use.
Startup Control Panel is easier to start, also runs (from its own folder) without installation, and 34KB is hardly clogging up your system! ;)

It still has to run at start up and doesn't offer anything you need over msconfig.

Winpatrol is a great little app that sits in the tray and alerts you whenever something tries to allow itself to launch on start. It doesn't consume much at all in the way of resources, and its free. Arovax Shield does a similar job but I've had compatibility issues with it.
