Started thinking about 4x4s - are there any proper 4x4s out there that emit less than 225co2s, and are automatic?

By proper I mean a Discovery and not an X5. A suzuki jimny and not a rav4. A toyota hilux and not a volvo XC70 (bad comparison lol).

Any ideas? I'm drawing a blank. I think the jimny auto is the only one, but I can't be sure.

Cheers

Any others though? If I bend the stipulation a bit, I can include the XC90 and the BMW 4x4s, but I'm referring to land-cruiser class cars

Is the X5 a capable off roader? From the initial google results people just seem to hark on about their on-road capability and their style etc... Must find better search terms!
It can't possibly be as useless as the pig ugly, 'bought by idiots' X3, but I've only ever seen X5's in town with not a spec of dust on them.

Still, I'd imagine it'd waste a *shudders*Jimny...

i didn't even realise jimny's were 4x4, i thought they were like big go-cart pretend jeeps :D

i've witnessed X5's get stuck where range rover sports and even porsche cayenne turbo's do not :O

They are very capable, just not with the low profile 20s that most of them have on. Fit the right wheels and tyres and it's good to go.

Does the CO2 matter?

Can I suggest one of these?

These will go anywhere, especially with a few mods. Don't know what its CO2 is but at 4.0L its not going to be low.

Cheap as chips, parts are cheap, cheap tax, nasty MPG. Straight 6 auto. Quite a smooth ride all in all.

did you read the first post?

I thought Jimny's were RWD, swear I saw one stuck in the snow in France spinning the rear wheels?

Paradigm will back me up/correct me.

Are they not 2wd most of the time but have a 4wd box? (Might be lies)
Sure I remember my Mum having the model before the Jimny (old and boxlike) and it having a setup like that.
Was a real shame when it was written off... *cough*

yeah co2 matters

for what reasons ?

are you talking about company car benefits or just for road tax reasons. If it was the latter, id be getting an X plate or earlier 4x4 and screw thinking about co2

to my mind low co2 output and 4x4 are 2 phrases you wont find in the same sentance. Especially when you throw in you want an auto as well.

hahaha i forgot about that beast

Trust me.. an X5 is not a capable offroader!

Sod all axle articualtion for starters:

Plus, no decent ground clearance and the air intake is way down low :)

You are going to be struggling to keep emissions below 225 though. The likes of the Nissan Navara/Patrol and Toyota Landruiser/Hilux are way over. Suzuki might be your only option. Freelander 2 TD4 Auto is 224 g/m though!
