any pros or cons to installing 64bit windows 7

How much faster? Benchmarks may show a difference in the numbers, but what about actual game play? And what games were they?

Games:
arma1
arma2
silent hunter 3
Lock on
IL2 sturmovik
DCS Black shark
Sins of a Solar Empire
COH + opposing fronts
Rainbow 6 vegas 2

Average speed difference about 10-15% in FPS terms, most games felt "smoother"
under Xp than under win 7 64bit

As I said suck it and see , you may play different games than me and may well get better performance.
Your mileage may vary as the saying goes.

Maybe your right ,
What do you think I should upgrade , that will make windows 7 64 run faster than XP 32 ?

current spec
i7 920 @ 3.2G | 6G Gskill 1600 DDR3 | GTX280 OC2 @ 650Mhz | 800W Tagan

I might try upping my OC on my CPU sometime next week when Iam off

Your XP runs faster on that set up then Win7? I swap you if you want, I got a C2D E6750 at stock, 4GB OCZ DDR2, a 7900GTX (but you can have my 8800GTX instead if you want!) and 550W Corsair modular.. and my Win7 runs 3 times faster the my XP Pro does.. email in trust if you want to do a swap! :p

PS. For the mods, just joking.. so plesae don't suspend me for suggesting a trade outside of the MM!

You're doing it wrong then.

You might do well to ask some one to set up windows for you if you can't do it properly yourself. :)

Nope the system is set-up fine , its just win 7 64 bit is NOT faster than Xp32
in most games I tried.

But if your benchmarks were better under win7 64bit Iam happy for you , maybe
after sp1 windows 7 64 will be better for running 32bit based games ........

Meh, XP is ugly and dated anyway. Your super modern PC rig will look dated with that installed.

Btw did you switch off aero when doing those FPS tests?

There's no real reason to stick with 32 bit unless there is some specific program that won't run on it, but they're pretty rare and usually old programs... There is however almost every reason to go 64 bit as it will utilize all of that ram instead of 3.5?GB of it. That said my lappy is running 32 bit windows 7 only because it was cheap as chips to upgrade.
