I think you'll be hard-pressed finding a small laptop with a Quad core processor. This is mainly because of the fact that they need extra fans, heatsinks etc to keep the unit cooler.
Most gaming laptops, like you said, can be found with a Quad Core, however, it does seem a 'waste' to buy one if you do not intend to use the graphics power.
want to replace a desktop generally and have it as a mobile one.
e.g take lappy on holiday (bored stiff on planes), to work etc, but when i get home i'd hook up with USB and firewire (ext hard drives and wifi keyboard and mouse) and HDMI to my telly and use it as the main PC at the time
