Any real world difference in a qx9650 and i7 920 build - Non Gaming

4gb will be just fine. Which motherboard is it, and will you need a case/psu/hard drives etc? If its 350 for just the board, ram and processor that's not such an amazing deal

hi full system

q9650
x38 - dont know which one likely a generic one
4gb corsair 800mhz
8800gt
400w generic psu - should be fine as not gaming + if im going budget might aswell do it right
1tb hdd
dvd/cd
compact case - i think it a silverstone matx

That's a much better deal. I'm not sure there are generic x38's out there, as budget boards would generally be P35 instead.

400W generic psu is a bad, bad thing. Terabyte hard drive/8800gt are good.

i know what your saying regarding psu but for standard desktop stuff is it really worth spending another 60-70 on a corsair psu when the current one is fine.

Im like if im gonna spend im gonna spend like mad like a did with my own pc - but if im going budget route im gonna be like scrooge

Hmm.. I'd change that psu tbh. It must've been pushed to the limit by the 8800gt during its time of use.

Or drop the 8800gt for a 4670 or something?

YES

That psu is not happy after running that system for any length of time. The odds of it dying are rather high, and it will not die gracefully. So if you do not spend the £50 on a decent psu to run it, then the psu is going to kill parts of your computer. 'Save' money on a psu and watch the rest of the system write itself off.

Do not save money on the psu. Safer to save money by not buying a case and running it in the open air on a desk. Hell, sell the q9650 for 200 quid, buy a q6600 for 100 quid, and spend half the profit from that on the psu if need be.

Couldn't have put that any better myself

i like your thinking, sell q9650 for q6600 - now that budget buying right there - will give that a go

Your sig doesn't look all that budget siumatfung...

You may find you do better building from scratch. Means nice things like warranties are much simpler. An amd tricore system is very quick, or a dual core intel is also fantastic. Overclocking does very good things on a budget, as you can get a very quick computer for the cost of a cpu cooler

Really? That's about what I'd pay for one I think, had a couple of people interested in my q9550 for £150

*cough* if you going budget why buy a Q9650! i went the budge route and had to learn the hard way do not follow my steps!

well im buying off a mate and any pc for under £400 i would class budget especailly when your getting a q9650 in there too. By saying budget i dont mean getting a ****ty comp but just making a few sacrifecs here and there maybe second hand stuff.

my signature was this a year ago

Q6600 GO
AC F7P
2Gb OCZ 1066 Reaper
750Gb sammy F1
ASUS P5N-E SLi
8800 GT zotac amp'd edition

think ive taken a good £100-200 quid loss skimping:(

We all have purchases we regret, but at least mm lets us minimise our losses. I'm grateful for that. I bought a 280gtx as a particularly stupid purchase, then sold it, and am now looking for one again. Damn.

Not a bad budget rig there at all, especially for a year ago. I'm using an 8800gt and 750gb f1s now :)

Getting a computer for under 400 isn't very difficult anymore. Can get quite fast ones new for less than that. Still that is a fairly good deal. What case is it?

An E8x00 would do everything you need it to, i7 shouldn't really be on the radar if you're looking at real world performance. Definately the C2Q for me!
