Any reason not to enable Virtual Super Resolution?

I've recently got a 390, and have been looking at a few driver options, and have been looking at VSR.

As I understand it, enabling it just gives you the option of selecting a higher resolution than your monitor, and it downscales that to fit your monitors resolution ?
Or is it automatically rendering at higher resolution even without changing in-game settings?

Is there any reason not to enable it in the drivers, if all it's doing is giving you extra options in-game?

Helps reduce shimmering and textures look sharper. If ur fps is good then use it i would say, wouldnt use AA tho when using it as it negates the need for it to some extent.

It has its uses - I don't use those kind of features indiscriminately though personally - there are some games it nicely increases the quality of the image but for a lot of games I just use normal native res.

I don't use it either but I have just run these in the Shadow of Mordor bench (maxed out) using the in game resolution scaling which is similar to VSR.

Make your own mind up.:)

I see a big difference in every game going from native 1080p to vsr 1440p. Everything is sharper and trees and bushes look better.

I use Nvidia's equivalent (DSR) on a 1080P IPS screen 'where it works correctly' its worth it provided you have enough performance and; i think, it also depends on the screen, i think the improvements in Image quality varies from screen to screen, for me DSR up from 1080P to 1440P results in a much sharper more crisp image, even the colours are slightly deeper. going as high as 4K its improved more.

How that image improves is; although largely the same also slightly different on AMD VSR. i had both on the same screen.

I think on an IPS screen where the colour range and pixel density is greater than a TN 1080P panel anyway the difference is very noticeable, but even on a TN panel you should see a difference.

However, it doesn't always work, i have found both on VSR and DSR menu links can be out of alignment with some games.
I use it wherever i can, native 1080P on my 1080P screen looks washed-out by comparison.

Ive tried messing around with DSR and i dont like it. The picture to me looks more blurry and while jaggies gets smaller or goes away the overall texture quality goes out the window to. No thank you. You can clearly see that in Kaapstaad's screenshots above

Same here, I run the majority of titles at 1440p through vsr as it does improve how they look on my 27" 1080p screen.

Maybe that's down to the extreme res but it's not a problem here going from 1080 to 1440..

@ OP, No it won't matter if you enable it, Whether you actually use it after enabling it is down to you and controlled on a game by game basis in the games menu.

It has a slight blurr factor ive noticed. On my 1080p monitor running 1440p it looked sharper but has a slight blur to it. Now i have a 1440p monitor native doesn't have that blur i could see and looks hella much better than DSR

I can even see the blur on kaaps 8k screenshot.

No he is correct, you can select 100Hz on certain resolutions above 1080p (forget which one it is). Just been testing it out.

Cool. Was this always the case or did they add in more supported refresh rates as time went on. I just assumed 60hz was the limit.

Less aliasing at the cost of frames, 1440P is my comfortable area, Anything higher than that and for me IMO the performance needed isn't worth the immensely tiny image quality increase you get.

Example, Mad Max, Max settings both at 1080P and 5K and as you can see the visual difference is so tiny yet the performance cost is immense -

Just on a still image it looks like some bits look better but it's a fair bit blurrier than normal 4k. How does it feel playing it? I know stills can be quite misleading.

If the game doesnt have textures to match, its almost pointless, theres still a sharpness increase (less need for Aliasing control), but it doesnt mean you're seeing anymore clarity....because it isnt there.

However, trying to run a 4K game at 4K is not going to happen... until Nvidia and AMD sort out multi-gpu processes (like NVlink and such).
