If you’re going to be subject to two £3 price rises over the contract term then I’d go with 500. I went from 500Mbps Lit Fibre to 1.6Gbps with EE (not paying for it so why not) and it has made zero difference to my experience of using the Internet.

The jump from FTTC 80/20 to FTTP 500 was huge and very noticeable. Going from 500 to 900Mbps, apart from the very rare large download, was not. Sure, it's certainly nice to have the extra throughput to pull down a Steam game in 15 minutes when out of the blue my Son asks to play something new, but next renewal I am probably going to go back down to 500Mbps and save the money.
Obviously your use case may vary, personally for me I just don't see the point in paying for something I get very little benefit from.
