I'd prefer London to be honest, I love it

I guess it depends what the girlfriend does, if she heads back to London, time to find a job in London, likewise if she stays in Aberdeen/Scotland .

Although flights from London to Aberdeen and vice versa are only around £40 return with Easyjet booked a month or so in advance, so weekend trips aren't an issue really, but still not ideal!

I'm surrounded by mechanical & aerospace people though, as I'm in the CFD world. Turns out that the aerospace people get it right usually - the design tolerances involved in chem eng means that our simulations are generally a bit rubbish (as is the vast majority of the empirically-correlated chem eng design & simulation world!)

Even I learned Mohrs circles and I'm a geologist! Couldn't really get my head round them properly but luckily I'll probably never have to use 'em again.

Yeah, theirs loads to list mate, you'll have to do research for them.

My girlfriend is from London and will either stay in Scotland (therefore Aberdeen is my main bet) or move back home to London after graduation in the summer, so obviously something down that way would be pretty awesome, but I can't really see much going on that way in terms of grad opportunities.

Considering doing an MSc after my BEng but unsure, do you think it'd be a worthwhile thing to do? I've noticed that there's a pretty even split between firms requiring BEng or MEng/MSc only. I noticed that you said you got a job offer while part-way through yours.

That really depends on what you are doing it in and if you have job offers once you graduate.

Yeah........no money. They just have very aggressive business plans and have the people in place to make sure it happens.

I'm trying to figure out what size steel beam to get to hang some speakers from.

I'm sure it's a simple calculation, but I just don't get it!!

So, I need a steel beam that will sit between two existing beams. The gap between the two is 5m, and a set of speakers weighing 48kg will be hung 1m from the end of the new beam.

What size steel do I need?

I would have thought you'd use some sort of trussing not a solid bar.

However I think you need to get the professionals in, the church's insurance will probably require it. You also need to think about weather or not the existing roof structure can take the additional weight.

Depends who you're talking about. Talisman isn't exactly small in the grand scheme of things (although there are several "interesting" people I've met that work there...).

Well the two I know personally who are being very aggressive are Maersk and Talisman.

Well out of all the companies they have secured more new north sea developments than any other company in the last buy out. Like I said aggressive at the moment.
