Any Suggestions?

ok thats up and running. I think the key factor there is the RAM voltage. 1.3v takes it into the red on the bios so I would have avoided that setting like the plague, I have however added a corsair dominator cooling fan doodad to the system this weekend on the advice of a mate who said ram temps were his main issue on his rig so theres some added cooling going onto the RAM

I cant get intel burn test but I am running OCCP - 36C idle and........

45C on full load, however the dismal duck of failure quacked in after about 3 minutes - Core 3 again, error detected.

Just checking the asus site thats a bit long in the tooth. Also they use the words "improve system stability" on build 1005 which as a software engineering type bod I am translating as "fix critical bug"

Thats an old bios 0905 is probably the best bios at the moment. Are you ok with flashing a bios? If so download 0905 from the asus website. If your settings are currently stable save them as a profile in the bios then reset the bios to factory settings & restart the machine, go into the bios and flash to 0905 then restart and reload the profile.

yeah I am happy flashing a bios. doing it now :)

ok thats flashed lets see what the dismal duck of occp failure has to say. other than <wark wark wark wark>

OCCP ran there for a good 10 minutes on full before reporting an error on Core 2 this time. Much improved though. I am tempted to screw the waterblock on a little tighter....

Good progress tho. Glad to learn that the RAM voltage in red does not mean "it explodes"

Dont think the waterblock needs to be tighter unless you are getting high temperatures. Up the cpu voltage 2 notches and try again. How many sticks of ram have you got installed.

1.65v on the ram shouldnt put it in the red can you check it in the bios or using software in windows.

Sorry my bad. the CPU/NB voltage is in the red at 1.3V, DRAM is happy, testing again now at 1.4V CPU.

I have 8GB in 4 sticks of G-Skill installed.

Can you add a link to the kit so I can see its default timings & get an idea of what it should be capable of at 1600mhz

Have a quick gander at that and let me know, gonna drop the link from the thread 'cause it aint fair to use OCUK's forums like that :)

This is about the closest I can see on OCUK. one digit difference, and marked as a 1600 not a 2000 mhz module.

Ok can probably get that stable at 8-8-8-24 @ 1600mhz if not then 8-9-8-24 or 7-9-7-24 should be do-able but it wont give much more performance over 9-9-9-24 that its currently at (just make sure it is set to T1 command not T2). Once you get your cpu stable @ 4ghz we can work on the cpu nb & get that stable (between 2400 & 2800 due to the amount of ram) & if there is any more room with voltages & temps then look to push the cpu a little higher.

gonna hit the sack fair soon here. Running one last OCCT to see where I am at. 4.013GHZ, 1.428V Core 9/9/9/24 mem 1T ( was on 2! ), 2408 NB Freq, 1.65 DRAM. Its off and running.

<edit> six minutes in here - and its installed a java update and open office whilst running it, no wark warks yet, max temp 50C... looks good. </edit>

good to hear. Leave it overnight if you can and see if it runs without error until morning. If it does then it will be nice and stable and could be pushed a little further with the info you posted (possible 4.1ghz cpu & 2600 cpu nb). Just to check what software are you using to monitor temps?

OCCP for CPU temps. I have the asus suite available as well. as for the Southbridge, mosfets and other mobo components I am using the mark 1 finger to determine if they are "hot" ;)

:D everest ultimate will show you all of that but some of the information will be greyed out if you use the trial version. I am not sure if OCCP gives the cpu temp (actual temp) or the core temps (software estimate). You could also use HWmonitor which will give you tha cpu temp just to double check.

ok cheers. will grab some of that stuff tomorrow. will pick up then.

Thanks a bunch mate. if theres an OCUK meet I owe you some beer :)
