¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I've been going to bed at 4am the past 4 nights, as I've been helping a friend with a night he's running at a local nightclub (sound engineer stuff basically)...

Now, I totally forgot I've got to be up at 7am tomorrow as I've agreed to 2 days of 9-5 work... I guess this is like jet-lag without the holiday. :(

So, it would be good to get a few hours sleep in, but normally I can't sleep until I feel tired (2am at the earliest...).

Any tips on how to get to sleep otherwise I'm going to be like an insomniac tomorrow....

You have to do something to tire you out and go to sleep early. I find going out on my mountain bike, or doing a big session in the gym helps.

Avoid having any caffeine and eating to soon before you want to sleep. Taking a shower or bath is also supposed to help.

Chloroform. Sixty percent of the time, it works every time.
I'm out of chloroform. I do have a 2L bottle of Natch tho. ;)
Maybe try doing some exercise to tire you out?
I'll see what I can do, I'll have to dig out the Powerball. :)

Well it's a bit dark to go for a bike ride now, but the last cuppa I had was hours ago so it's not all bad.

I find times shifts really kill me too so I'd be interested in some methods too..

Although taking some medicines may work in the UK, some places in the middle east it's a good idea to not have anything on you.. even some over-the-shelf things are illegal there..

I just go to bed when I'm tired and wake up when it's time. If you don't get enough sleep it means you're pretty much sorted for the next night as long as you don't have any naps during the day etc.

I find that when my sleep pattern manages to get completely upside down, the best way to stop it and put it back to normal is to pull an all nighter, go through the next day and then go to sleep a little early... next morning I usually feel ok and it's fixed. It's quite hard at the time but it's perfectly doable.

The man speaketh the truth.

I prefer half a bottle of scotch to Night Nurse. Good old natural remedy and sends me to sleep in a jiffy once the room has stopped spinning.

Exercise everytime, go for a nice LONG run, or for me i do long biking session. Avoid caffeine, drink water instead, and try not to worry about not sleeping too much obviously easier said than done, but you'll be fine on even 5 hours sleep really, just don't do it often!

dont do exercise, that wakes your body up

if u want to get your body clock in check just do an all nighter

And feel like carp the next day? Sounds stupid.

Your obviously not doing *enough* exercise ... Do a decent run/bike and then get back recover and you will fall asleep of course it wakes you up at the time, but once you've recovered if you've done enough you'll be fast asleep.

well that depends what we're talking about here, he posted at 11.05pm so im assumin your advice is for right now. If you exercise then you'll not be able to sleep, exercising gets your body for more work so it stays awake.

but if he were to do an allnighter, the first half of the next day he'll be relatively fine, then nearer the end of the day he will be unbelieveably tired, so he can sleep at a good time 8/9/10 then wake up at a good time 7/8/9

Yeah tbh i was too late with the reply, but an hour or two's run at 10/11 depending on pace he pushed himself) would have been adequate! Now its probably time to go for the all nighter, or tbh, just take a hit and have 4 hours sleep, you'll still feel refreshed after 3/4 hours sleep, just not as great as a full night! The body is pretty amazing...

All-nighters are the way forward to sort this out - might have to pull one myself soon - but when you hit the tired phase mid-morning, make sure you push yourself through until the evening! Don't lie down or you will fall asleep and then your sleep cycle will be more messed up than ever.

I've always had a bad sleeping pattern.... I just let mine sort its self out tbh.

But once I get into a good sleeping routine I always end up messing it up again. :(

To be honest the best way to do it, is to go to bed as early as you can when you feel tired in your case 2am but maybe try 1am... then just get up early, you'll be tired probably though frankly 5hrs sleep is usually good enough, then the next day you're likely to be somewhat more tired around 10-11pm, perfect! :)

I'm a morning person so even if I don't sleep (which I haven't been recently) I feel great. I still get up at 5am every day for work anyway so I'm used to little sleep and early starts! :p
