Well after trying an Iphone then a HTC One M7 and various keyboard apps, I must admit I still cannot get away with touchscreen for e-mails and texts.

Anyone else still prefer a keyboard?
Anyone still using a keyboard phone or imported a modern one?

My contracts up soon and I am deciding what to do. I think a larger touch screen would help. The mrs thinks a note 4 for the stylus but I cannot see me using that for text input.

Sigh, I dunno!
 
I had the same issue, how long have you tried the phone for? My current G3 and Google Keyboard combo seems to be working well.

I've been using Gesture/Swype more though.

Keys are too small, picky I know but I prefer the slide out keyboards as they are bigger. I had a orange SPV M3100 back in the day, phone not great but loved the keyboard.
 
You tried swiping keyboards as the others have? Really cuts down on spelling issues and just switches to wrong word issues but it's probably more up your street, even if you end up ducking a lot ;)

The more common issue people have with touch screens is their own viewing angle and this is something apple handles a lot better typically. iPhones when typing set the touchpoint artificially low, eg your touch was at XXX:YYY co-ords, the iPhone keyboard perceives this to be XXX:(YYY-5%) and activates the keypress on this. Depending on the android keyboard, this typically doesn't happen. the assumption being that when you look at your phone you're looking top down so the place you think you should be pressing to activate the key is too high (and your digits arn't perfect spheres too). It's less of an issue on bigger devices these days but if you can tune yourself to either a swipe keyboard or try trying lower a bit, you might find your accuracy improves.

Or you could just use voice typing. Swype is by Nuance who provide all the voice to text for banks, IVRs etc... Google I'm sure you've seen all over Chrome etc... :)
 
I always liked a proper keyboard on phones too, but since moving to the S2, I've had to make do without.

Using the Note 2 with a bigger screen helped cut down mistakes, swipe helped a little too. But i've since moved to a Z3c and i'm finding i make more mistakes typing using the swipe style, tried a few diffenent keyboards, and i'm now using google keyboard with swipe on but use a combination of tap and swipe to type.

I'm now moving back to a large screen (N6), the typing being one of the reasons. I've got pretty large hands even for my size at 6'2".

The S-Pen can be useful, but in the 2 years i had my note 2 i probably only used it a handful of times, for specific apps that required it. It's not great for writing text with, as it takes too long to log each word, so there is a slight pause before you can start writing again, and from my experience mistakes are still made

Remember reading about them a couple of years ago so it's nice to see they finally have a working product.

When I first got a smartphone it took a while to get use to the touchscreen keyboard, but it never really felt right. Once swiping keyboards started popping up, initially it was pretty inaccurate but once it starts learning your swiping habits then you can type very fast accurately. I found Swype to be the best in terms of learning/accuracy, although I use Google Keyboard now as it loads faster.
 
Every phone I've had since 2003 has had a physical qwerty keyboard (no blackberries), when my HTC 7 Pro got stolen after 3 years nothing out there seemed to be a big upgrade so I bought another one for £40. Trying to use the touch more as I know one day I'll have to upgrade (skype support has already been removed) but with a physical keyboard I can quite happily open the phone and start typing without the need to watch what I'm doing.
 
Using the Q10. Does the job for now.
I have an xperia pro but with 400mb storage and 512 ram its become pretty useless.

Blackberry Passport seems like the best option.
 
Try out a keyboard with swiping gestures. They're not perfect, but they're definitely a lot quicker than tapping in my experience. Swype is my keyboard of choice.
 
Even tapping is faster than a physical keyboard with intelligent predictions (ala Swiftkey) because you can make lots of errors and get away with it. Try it the next time you're drunk and try doing that on a Blackberry.

I think large screened phones are the best compromise overall.

I agree that the iPhone keyboard does seem somehow just a tad nicer for tapping than Android keyboards, but I dislike how simplified it is (no long pressing for symbols, no swyping) - although at least its got predictions now.

My choice on Android is Swiftkey, followed by Google Keyboard. Haven't tried Swype for a while and somehow found Fleksy hard work.

Probably the phones but iv'e found the iphone and android doesnt keep up and gets error prone (more me than anything)

Basically I can type more accurately at speed with a physical keyboard.

I will retry swype.
If I recall correctly I think I liked it but felt the screen was too small.
It's emials I put off because of not liking touchscreen.

I don't mind windows phone actually but my lumia does not have haptic. feedback. (Lumia 635 is my backup phone)

Do you use the prediction tabs or do you try to type every letter?
 
I keep my emails / typing on touch screen devices to short answers (yes/no). If I want to type something I use a computer. I don't like touch devices for lots of typing, and I can type a lot quicker than I can use my phone.

Swift key also has a swipe style gesture input, I don't tend to use it though -
it takes some getting used to but if you try and force yourself into using the predictions its much easier, it just trying to retrain yourself when your instinct is to try and type full words.
