ok im looking for a game similar to that of the x files i used to have many moons ago on pc. it was a game where you moved around and examined objects and found clues to continue the storyline. is there anything similar to this nowadays? thanks

Do you want a Sci-Fi theme or any would do? For first I can recommend The Longest Journey along with Dreamfall (sequel).

Monkey Island is fairly definitive, though it'll be much more slapstick than you're used to. Sam & Max is in the same vein - both runs have recent editions on Steam. The Broken Mirror series is also highly recommended, though they're quite dated now, and if you don't mind older games I'd recommend Indiana Jones & The Lost City of Atlantis.

There is a Lucas Art adventure pack on steam thats worth playing.

This list was posted on the steam forums showing some point and click games available -

AlternativA
Lost Horizon
Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: The Directors Cut
Broken Sword 3: The Sleeping Dragon
Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge
Machinarium
Alter Ego
Time Gentlemen, Please!
Jolly Rover
Strong Bad's Cool Game for the Attractive People
Secret of Monkey Island
The Whispered World
Agatha Christie: And Then There Were None
Agatha Christie: Evil Under the Sun
Agatha Christie: Murder on the Orient Express
Broken Sword 2: The Smoking Mirror

i went with Indigo Prophecy from steam and i must say for £6 odd its brilliant. Its a earlier version of heavy rain type feel to it.
