Any watch experts?

personally out of those two i'd go for the speedmaster if you want an omega in that price range, everybody and gods dog has a seamaster. ;)

It’s a nice watch I would personally go for a seamaster over the speedmaster however if you like it go for it. Omega make a really nice Moon face "Broad Arrow Speedmaster Professional with a silver / white face. I tried it on with a leather strap / deployment claps, it was very very hard for me to stop my self from buying it. Referance 3575.20.00 and referance 3575.30.00

i'm assuming mentioning the fact you're 21 soon indicates looking at things to be bought as presents for you...
thats a lotta money :p

i'd go for the speedmaster, it just looks swisher :p

I'm probably contributing to it as well before anyone starts. Pugster - what's the quality of the movement like on the reduced?

it still baffles me how people can spend so much money on a watch!

Like people can spend so much money on a car, hifi, tv, jeans, other clothes...sun glasses and the list goes on.

Its a special gift and I'm picking one I like.

if i could afford it, i'd spend that much on a watch. its something that'll last for life!

the same way i'll buy a £1,500 guitar - it'll last and be just as good as it was new a good few years down the line!

I was just saying mate. I'll probably use any birthday money I get to pay for half of it (get money rather than gifts from parents and family).

If i could afford it id buy a Seamaster without thinking. Personally i prefer the look of the Seamaster over the Speedmaster, but its all personal preference.

Same way I cant understand how people will payout a fiver for a beer, you would not catch me doing that but I would be happy to spend £5k on a watch

Paras have you any idea on the quality of the movement? I guess it'll be good for that price...but anyway.

I personally wouldn't go for a reduced..they look a bit odd to me.

I have a Seamaster Chrono and a Speedmaster Anniversary too, so know a bit about Omega.

The Speedmaster has lots of history, so if you want to go for an authentic Speedy, then you'll need the manual with the 'plastic' face. However if you just want a nice, easy to live with one, then theres plenty of Speedmasters to choose from.

The Seamaster is very popular - and for good reason! Again though theres plenty of choice, but you can get the classic automatic full-size Seamaster (the 'Bond' watch) for a good price as theres plenty of them about.

I would highly recommend visiting a good local dealer to have a look at them and try them all on before you make your decision. The Speedmaster can feel a little 'lightweight' in comparison to a Seamaster, but it obviously depends on what you're looking for.
Often a dealer will be able to match an on-line price and that gives you peace of mind.

I would also recommend doing plenty of research before you jump in, these things aren't cheap. Have a look at:
Timezone Omega forum theres some very knowledgeable guys there and you can trawl through the posts to try and learn as much as you can.

Rotty should be along soon, he's the OcUK horologist and will no doubt add his views.

I think it uses a Caliber 3220 movement which has a 40 hours power reserve, I don’t really know much about it to be honest however I have not heard anything bad about it.

EDIT: did not see Pugstars post :)

Cheers guys. RObbie, I don't really want second hand (am fussy) and I personally like the Reduced (the look of it). Aslong as the innards of the reduced are of a high standard (which I guess they are), then I love the look.

Edit: and my budget probably tops out at the Speedmaster reduced.

I didn't mention anything about second hand mate!
I think the main thing with these watches is to get one that you really want, and if thats the Reduced, then cool :)

Have you tried it on? I would highly recommend you try one on at a local dealer before purchasing..and again remember that you'll probably be able to get it from a local dealer for the same price as on-line..thats a much better option.

Where can I get a brand new seamaster auto for 828<? The problem is now finding a place that sells the reduced.

Is it a Seamaster or Speedmaster reduced you want? My friend has a Seamaster auto reduced (well, it's called a 'Mid sized') and it actually looks pretty good.

I would suggest any decent Omega dealer would have either of these, as they're not limited editions or 'niche' stock and you're in a good position to haggle with a dealer as theres plenty of them around.

I would take a wander around your closest big town/city and see what you come up with, but I would expect an independent dealer to offer the best percentage discount

The watch I want ATM is the Speedmaster Reduced. If I could get a NEW Seamaster for 825 (auto) with blue or black bezel I may go for that.

Edit: I've found this but it's still a tad too much.
